San Diego-based CARInet owns and operates multiple data-centers with critical system infrastructure that assures customers of continual uptime. Started in 1997 as a hosting provider, CARInet has built an international base of enterprise customers who require automated provisioning, flexible configurations, and around-the-clock certified systems support. In order to retain and grow its customer base, CARInet continually seeks out hardware and software solutions that push the envelope on performance, often using the latest technologies available to ensure that it provides dependable and reliable services for their clients’ mission critical computing and storage platforms.
Since 1997, CariNet has remained a hosting leader, offering a wide variety of hosting options including dedicated servers, server clusters, public and private cloud offerings as well as server virtualization hypervisors. We build, own and operate all of our datacenters and are capable of handling customers and demands of any size. We service some 7500+ customers around the globe. CariNet has provided On-Demand from Day One
Recently, there has been a lot of “buzz” in the hosting industry regarding “on-demand” services. “On-demand” services are simply any service that enables users to turn services on or off at will and enable the scaling of resources up or down. The reality of the matter is CariNet has been offering on-demand services from day one! That’s thirteen years ahead of the industry.
Most hosting companies force their customers to sign an annual if not bi-annual contract before the customers’ servers are even ordered and/or built. This enables the hosting company to lock the customer in for payment regardless of whether or not the hosting company lives up to their side of the deal. Additionally, it has not been uncommon for customers to wait days or even weeks for server clusters to come online and be available to them.
CariNet has never held our customers hostage to a long term contract. Since 1997, CariNet has always realized that the way to keep customers is to exceed customers’ expectations, not lock customers into long term contracts. Unlike other hosting companies, the CariNet team holds ourselves accountable to our customers. CariNet also recognizes the fact that some customers may not need a server for more than a month or two and that is why we have always provided on-demand services in which customers can add and remove services in their account at will.
Rather than strong-arm salespeople, CariNet offers superior service at a fair cost. This is how CariNet earns our business. It’s also the reason why CariNet is the right choice for hosting your enterprise servers, clusters and cloud computing services.
The reason on-demand is taking over the industry is that it is the right thing to do for you, the customer. The traditional business model that most hosting companies follow of locking customers into long term contracts is simply wrong and CariNet has always known this. While many hosting companies have come and gone since 1997, CariNet continues to be a leader in the industry.
CARInet’s San Diego Datacenters: Rock Solid. Always Online.
CARInet opened our doors in 1997. We provide the greatest value for the money available within any Southern California Datacenter business. Our superior datacenter design and critical systems infrastructure allows our customers to rest assured of continual uptime. We pride ourselves on being an integral extension of our customers’ operations and can quickly scale with a customized solution to support a business’ changing needs. For our new customers, we help minimize the hassle of changing data centers by offering rapid provisioning, flexible configurations and quick installation making it easy for any company to become a cloud or Dedicated server customer. Facilities
CARInet has purchased, built, and retrofitted 7 production Datacenter facilities in San Diego, California. Now known as the CARInet Campus, this collection of facilities was purchased in 2006 as a clear statement to our customers that we are long-term players in the Datacenter and hosting market. The 2004 purchase of one of the region’s best Carrier Grade data facilities was an initial triumph for the company.
The Network
CariNet’s Enterprise Network was designed from the ground up to support our customers’ ever growing need for speed! While lightning fast page loads and bandwidth on demand are some of our primary objectives, overall redundancy is the next big focus of the CariNet Network Managers. We achieve these objectives in a number of ways:
Transit to the major carriers is routed using Border Gateway Protocol (BGP-4 ), a protocol that provides automated detection and redirection in the case of a transit carrier failure. Edge routers – those that connect directly to the transit carriers – are linked by multi-Gigabit, multi-paths that are wholly owned and operated by the CariNet network engineering group. This provides facility-level redundancy for Internet transit, backed by both AC and DC power plants.
Distribution redundancy is achieved by multi-facility non-active fiberoptic links to the transit routing infrastructure. No single fiber, transit carrier, or power failure can cause an interruption of service to the distribution routers. The distribution routers are the gateway routers for client connections; Hot Standby Routing Protocol (HSRP) provides redundancy for the gateway IP address to remove the distribution routers as single points of failure. Dedicated Virtual LAN’s are assigned to clients to enhance network security and to allow customized Access Control Lists (ACL’s).
Network access consists of dual switch connections, 100Mbps or 1Gbps. The switch connections are provided from separate access switches that are connected to the distribution network by redundant trunk ports. Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) is used to ensure automatic failover in the case of a switch or uplink failure.
Windows Cloud Servers
CARI.net offers REAL Windows Cloud Servers, not a simple VPS. What is the difference? A VPS is only a virtual machine running on a physical machine; whereas a cloud server is a highly available cloud server instance running on a highly available, fully redundant cluster of servers and SAN components. All CARI.net cloud servers are instantly on-demand, scalable and highly available. Address & Contacts

3Tera, a developer of cloud computing platform software and utility computing services, today announced new educational and certification programs to provide customers with expertise in building world-class cloud computing services and solutions. The company says that initially, two certification programs are available, Certified Cloud Operator and Certified Cloud Architect, designed to address the needs of cloud computing professionals.
It adds that currently, two cloud computing certification programs are available. The company explains that the Certified Cloud Operator program is targeted toward service providers, enterprises operations professionals and systems integrators, responsible for the deployment and operation of cloud services. The program covers the process of installing, configuring and maintaining the computing fabric used for building cloud computing services. It states that emphasis is placed on hardware requirements, service configuration, hardware failure troubleshooting, provisioning of customers, and configuration of virtual private datacenters.
It further explains that the Certified Cloud Architect program is offered for system architects, IT operations professionals, application developers and systems engineers responsible for the design, integration, provisioning, deployment and management of distributed applications. Participants learn the architectural concepts of the AppLogic cloud computing platform, step-by-step procedures for deploying, operating and managing applications in the cloud, best practices for security, testing and scaling applications, and how to architect for business continuity.
The company further states that cloud computing training and certification programs are accessible to IT professionals who are either evaluating or using the AppLogic cloud computing platform. Certification is awarded upon successful completion of the training coursework and online testing. For more details on training schedule and availability, visit http://www.3tera.com/AppLogic/Cloud-Certification.php.
"Rapid development and deployment of applications are key reasons thousands of users are adopting cloud computing through our service providers and we've designed our certification programs with that in mind," said Bert Armijo, SVP Marketing and Product Management, 3Tera, Inc. "Our certification programs offer instruction and hands-on labs covering the essential elements needed for rapid success in the cloud - basic concepts, advanced technologies, best practices, automation, and business continuity."
"In the nine months we've partnered with 3Tera, cloud computing has become the fastest growing, and most profitable part of our business," commented Mark Ortenzi, President, Cari.Net. "To meet this demand, we now have five 3Tera Certified Cloud Computing Operators and Architects well-versed in the deployment and management of customers' solutions available 24/7 in all of our five datacenters."
"Enterprises need more than just a single virtual machine for their blog; they need to run multi-tiered, mission-critical applications with geographic fault tolerance," said Mike Michalik, CEO, Cirrhus9, a cloud systems integrator. "AppLogic is the best cloud computing technology we've seen that meets the needs of both the enterprise and start-ups. The certification ensures Cirrhus9 can deliver on any cloud computing requirement our customers may have."
3Tera Announces IPv6 Support (October 1, 2009) - Company adds IPv6 support to AppLogic Cloud Computing Platform; allows users to use native IPv6 to connect applications between datacenters.
3Tera, a provider of cloud computing technology and utility computing services, today announced that AppLogic is the first cloud computing platform to demonstrate support for IPv6. The company and its hosting partners Cari.net and ScaleUp Technologies successfully demonstrated database replication between applications running in two different cloud provider datacenters using an IPv6 VPN tunnel created with its new VPN catalog appliance. It explains that until now, IPv6 adoption has been slowed by the perception that it requires both support on the client side and complex code changes in applications. With its AppLogic cloud computing platform, it is no longer necessary to make changes in the configuration of the software in order to be able to support IPv6, while still keeping the data available to IPv4 users.
"We are removing barriers for IPv6 support and creating momentum for IPv6 adoption," said Peter Nickolov, President and CTO, 3Tera, Inc. "Within AppLogic, applications and complex distributed systems are actually not aware whether they are running over IPv6 or IPv4, which makes the transition to IPv6 seamless."
"In less than an hour we added 3Tera's new VPN appliance to an existing application," said Mark Ortenzi, President, Cari.net, a hosting provider based in San Diego, CA. "The appliance established an IPv6 tunnel for database and file system replication between the application running in our San Diego datacenter and another copy in the ScaleUp Technologies' datacenter in Germany."
Christoph Streit, Founder, ScaleUp Technologies, based in Germany commented, "We have experimented with native IPv6 in our datacenters for some time and 3Tera is making it easy for cloud users to utilize the IPv6 network. In our test no change was required to the datacenter, the application code or the client. For scaling a global cloud offering, this is critical to success because IPv4 addresses are more difficult to obtain internationally."
