1&1 Offers .name Domains for $2.99 (October 26, 2004) - Web hosting provider 1&1 Internet (oneandone.com) announced on Tuesday that it is offering .name domain registrations in the US market for $2.99 per year.
The limited offer will run until December 21, 2004 and is available with all of 1&1's Web hosting packages. Existing customers are eligible to receive the price and there is no limit to the number of domains a customer can register. "The .name promotion is intended to help our customers make a distinctive mark on the Web," says Andreas Gauger, chairman of the board for 1&1 Internet. "It opens new possibilities for users who want to personalize their Web presence with a particular name that may not be available on another top level domain. It's an additional way for us to ensure that we're giving our customers all they need to be successful." Domain prices have dropped rapidly across the industry in the last year as Web hosting companies use low prices to attract customers in the hopes of selling them other more profitable services. In August, Dot5Hosting (dot5hosting.com) dropped its domain pricing to $2.50. EV1Servers (ev1servers.net) and Hostway (hostway.com) have dropped their domain pricing to $6.49 and $6.95 respectively.
Dot5Hosting Offering $2.50 Domains (August 20, 2004) - Web hosting provider Dot5Hosting (dot5hosting.com) announced on Thursday that it is now offering domain names for $2.50 a year.
Chris Phillips, CEO of Dot5Hosting, said the price, effective immediately, will be available for at least another year. "We have no plans to take it down." Customers are not obliged to purchase a Web hosting plan to be eligible for the $2.50 price. However, Dot5Hosting intends to up-sell customers. The extremely low price is designed to increase our customer base and raise awareness of Dot5Hosting products and services, Phillips said. Domain prices have dropped rapidly across the industry in the last year as Web hosting companies use the dramatically low prices to attract customers in the hopes of selling them other more profitable services. In June, Globat began offering domains for $3.99 per year and 1&1 Internet is currently offering .us domains for $2.99 per year in a promotional offer. EV1Servers (ev1servers.net) and Hostway (hostway.com) have dropped their domain pricing to $6.49 and $6.95 respectively. Dot5Hosting also announced that it has launched a newly designed Web site. The site features a revamped, easy to use interface and a new page that outlines a top ten list of reasons for joining Dot5Hosting.
