Netcraft Reports Most Reliable Hosts (September 13, 2007) - Web analytics firm Netcraft (netcraft.com) reports this week that INetU (inetu.net), New York Internet (nyi.net) and Acens (acens.com) are the most reliable hosting company sites for August 2007, followed closely by Easynet (easynet.net), iPowerWeb (ipowerweb.com) and Go Daddy (godaddy.com).
Colocation and managed services provider New York Internet led the list for the third time this year, having previously taken the top spot in January and May. Meanwhile, managed hosting provider INetU was second in the July survey and has appeared in the top 10 many times, including seven consecutive months in 2004. This is the first appearance on the reliable Web hosts list for Spanish Web host Acens.
Trailing the top three are American discount Web hosts iPowerWeb and Go Daddy. Three of the ten most reliable Web hosts run their Web sites on FreeBSD, three operate on Windows and two on Linux.
Netcraft measures and posts the response times of fifty leading hosting providers' sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from separate points around the Internet while averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.
The company reported last week that it released the results of its September 2007 Web Server Survey.
Hostopia Ranked Most Reliable Host Site (April 7, 2006) - Shared hosting provider Hostopia (hostopia.com) topped the list of the most reliable Web host sites this month, followed by Verio (verio.com) and iPowerWeb (ipowerweb.com), according to Web analytics firm Netcraft (netcraft.com).
This marks Hostopia's first appearance among Netcraft's reliability rankings. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Web host specializes in the wholesale hosting market, offering private-label Web and application hosting plans for resellers.
This month's results illustrate the reliability of the shared hosting sector, which traditionally offers the most affordable hosting plans. Three of the top 10 Web hosting providers - iPowerWeb, Interland and MyHosting -- all offer hosting plans for less than $10 a month, while another five have basic plans priced below $20.

Domain Sales Push iPowerWeb Growth (March 16, 2006) - Web statistics company Ipwalk (ipwalk.com) announced on Thursday that domain registrar and Web hosting provider iPowerWeb (ipowerweb.com) has experienced considerable growth since it reduced its domain name prices last November.
After it slashed its price for a one-year domain name registration to $2.95 last November, iPowerWeb has been growing rapidly. The Web hosting provider has gone from having less than 2,000 domains names registered to signing up more than 20,000 new domain names per month.
This extreme price point is not entirely without a downside. It costs iPowerWeb approximately $6 to register a domain name, so at a price of $2.95, iPowerWeb is losing roughly $3 for every domain name registration.
Calculations by Ipwalk reveal that by maintaining its current growth rate, iPowerWeb would need to upsell an estimated 4.5 percent of its new domain names to one-year hosting packages to balance its costs. It will also earn back money when customers renew their domain names for $8.25 after one year, since the low price only applies for the first year.
