Data Center Design
The Liquid Web network has been designed to accommodate clients demanding the highest quality network performance. There is a central focus on redundancy allowing our network to rapidly self-heal failures without interruptions to connectivity. At Liquid Web, we own our infrastructure.
Tier-1 Premium Bandwidth
Providing the highest quality Internet connectivity and performance is our top priority. We have selected premium Tier-1 bandwidth providers, ensuring minimal latency and fast connections to all points of the global internet. We are proud to feature direct connectivity with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Savvis and Level3. Our aggregate connectivity reaches an astounding 8,500+ networks just a single network away from our up-links.
Security On-Site
Datacenter access is strictly limited to technical staff. Electronic security systems control data center access and are accompanied by a full compliment of motion detecting security cameras which monitor the entire facility. Our DataCenter facility external walls are reinforced poured concrete. We are a fully managed facility, which means we have level 3 technicians on site 24 hours per day, allowing incident response times to be kept to a minimum.

Power Systems
Our power systems feature extensive fault tolerance and resilience at every layer. Incoming service is routed underground to a dedicated on-site transformer. This system routes to our automatic transfer switch which monitors power quality, and automatically transfers to our emergency generators in the event they are needed. Each facility is also protected by one or more uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), featuring redundant battery cabinets and full maintenance bypass cabinets allowing for service and upgrades without interruption of power to our servers.
Liebert Precision power distribution units handle final power transformation and distribution to racks, ensuring clean consistent power to data center equipment.
Each facility has multiple emergency generators waiting on standby, featuring over 24 hours of autonomous runtime before requiring refueling. Each generator is test run at least once a week to ensure they are ready in the event they are needed.
Generator power is activated automatically in the event of a utility failure by the transfer switch. The data center load is maintained by the UPS units with at least 15 minutes of capacity, however this is not necessary as the generator is active and up to speed within 10 seconds of a power failure.
Cooling
Environmental processing systems include redundant Liebert Precision 22 ton up flow air conditioning units. Temperature and humidity are precisely regulated year round to ensure optimal equipment reliability. Each unit contains independent compressors and cooling loops to further enhance fault tolerance and reliability. Air filtration systems actively remove foreign particulates from circulation and cycle the entire data center air supply in a matter of minutes.
The Liquid Web Network

According to Liquid Web's website, the company's Heroic Support provides customers with complete technical support, including 24-hour access to level 3 engineers by phone or email, infrastructure engineered for complete reliability, software hardening to protect their server, proactive monitoring and service restoration, complete user level tools for monitoring the health of their server, and a 100 percent uptime SLA.
In October, the company had an average ticket response time of 10 minutes, which it celebrated by introducing a new 30 minute initial response time guarantee for all tickets that are submitted or authenticated through PIMS.
Ruby on Rails support is now available on Liquid Web's shared, VPS and dedicated hosting packages.
The one click application deployment lets customers deploy highly scalable and fault tolerant Rails configurations within minutes.
"Liquid Web's Ruby on Rails clients can be confident they are in good hands because Liquid Web provides flexible month to month pricing and Heroic Support engineers that proactively monitor their servers 24 hours per day," says Travis Stoliker, director of marketing at Liquid Web.
The new fully managed RoR hosting package features fully managed rails updates, fully managed dedicated databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite, one click application deployment, SSH for secure private access, RubyGems package manager pre-installed, and web server support for Mongrel, Thin, Passenger and FastCGI.
Liquid Web offers a range of services, including fully managed dedicated hosting, virtual private servers, and data center services.

LiquidWeb Data Center Nears Completion (January 29, 2009) - After breaking ground in June 2008 on the construction of a soon-to-be completed 90,000 square foot data center and new headquarters in central Michigan, web hosting provider LiquidWeb (www.liquidweb.com) has released a number of videos and photos of the new facility, which will also encompass its new headquarters.
According to LiquidWeb, "DataCenter3" will support 25,000 new high performance web servers, create 600 new high-tech jobs with training and full paid benefits, and contribute $80 million of investment to Michigan's Internet infrastructure.
In his video update, LiquidWeb infrastructure director Chris Strandt explained the progress of the large project in the state's capital, Lansing.
"We've got all of the tile in, we've got all the walls in," says Strandt in the video. "The only pieces left are finishing pieces - the flooring and the electrical. The electrical is a big component of this build."
LiquidWeb has previously built two data centers in Lansing, a 11,000 square foot one in 2003, and a 32,000 square foot facility built in 2005.
This new facility, according to Strandt, will substantially increase LiquidWeb's office space. He said the rough distribution of the new facility will be 40,000 square feet of office space and 50,000 of data center space.
Community Nod for LiquidWeb Founder (September 26, 2008) - Hosting provider LiquidWeb (liquidweb.com) reported on Friday that its founder and CEO had been recognized by the Lansing Regional Chamber, Greater Lansing Business Monthly and Grand River Connection in their "10 over the next 10" award.
Matthew Hill, says the company, was named one of the 10 young area professionals expected to contribute significantly to the Lansing community. Presumably the "next 10" in the award's title refers to the next 10 years.
It was the second year the award was given out, this time at an event held September 25 at the Radisson hotel in Lansing.
"To be considered, nominees had to be 35 or younger, professionally centered in the tri-county region, and have worked for a minimum of two years in the area," said an article published on the Business Monthly's website.
Hill has run LiquidWeb for roughly eight years, since launching the company in Lansing in 2000. He is now faced with the task of keeping the business successful, and firmly rooted in Lansing, lest he make the particularly descriptive award's judges look foolish.
Fortunately, LiquidWeb has demonstrated a commitment to remaining a part of the community. The company opened a second data center in Lansing in 2005, and began work on a third data center in the city in 2008.
Earlier in September, the company posted a video tour, produced completely in-house, of one of its existing facilities.
In August, LiquidWeb was one of a handful of hosting companies to appear on Inc. Magazine's Inc. 5,000 list of the fastest growing companies in the US.
