(mt) Media Temple's newest data center is located in Ashburn, Virginia. With a total of 171,200 sq. feet available for operations, this all-new Data Center represents the pinnacle of achievement for Data Center Operators, DuPont Fabros. Built from the ground up and launched in 2007, VA-IDC4 is considered to be the prototype for future ground-up development projects and DuPont Fabros believes its flexible design and enhanced power and cooling capacity make it one of the leading data center facilities in the world.

The Facility
VA-IDC4 is situated on 17 acres of land at the Ashburn Corporate Center in Loudoun County, Virginia. Ground-up development began in 2006 and was completed in late 2007. The facility's flexible design and enhanced power and cooling capacity make it one of the leading data center facilities in the world. The raised square footage is divided into 20 separate computer rooms, each of which is served by an independent and dedicated critical electrical backup system. This design enables each computer room to function independently. VA-IDC4 consists of approximately 300,000 gross square feet (not including 40,000 square feet dedicated to housing generators) and 171,300 raised square feet, with a critical load of 36.4 MW.

Commercial Power
34.5 kV power feed provided by Dominion Virginia Power
Dual Input 300kVA PDU's (power distribution units) - 600 volt primary, in our data room, each fed from a preferred source and back-up source.
The facility uses one CPS (continuous power supply) and we have our own CPS unit that serves our data room (N+1).

Backup Power
32 Rotary power systems with 1300 kW of critical output for N+2 redundancy
32 diesel-powered emergency generators with 2,250 kW capacity for N+2 redundancy

HVAC / Heat Rejection
8,860 tons total refrigeration capacity (8 Chillers at 1080 Tons each).
26 CRACs (Computer Room Air Conditioner) units inside our data room.
One chemical treatment station.
Six chillers can handle total maximum load, giving building N+2 redundancy.

The Facility
The space is in approximately 7,000 square feet currently with room for expansion up to 40,000 square feet. The center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. On-site armed security is around-the-clock. They monitor the alarm system and security cameras that are on all perimeter points of ingress/egress to the building. Bulletproof security station and shipping/receiving areas with a Biometric security system are also in place. Our personnel require authorized escorted visitations. 24” raised floor manufactured by Maxcess covering every square foot of our cages, MDF and Network Operation Center.

Why Us?
There’s more to it than just really fast servers. Here’s 10 of the many reasons to choose (mt) as your web hosting provider.

We never close. We never leave, and the lights are never off. We are a true 24/7/365 company. Call us at 3:00am New Year’s Day - we'll be here. It’s part of our Support Promise.

We’re affordable. When you truly consider the facts - when you add up all of the features - we undeniably offer more value than any nearest competitor. Sometimes you have to look beyond the price and consider all things such as quality, uptime, support and then features. There is a cost to “cheap web hosting” - don’t let it burn you.

We answer the phone. Our average hold time for technical support is below 2 minutes.

We hire amazing employees. The talent runs deep within our organization. This means a better hosting experience for you. While working at (mt) Media Temple may be great, interviewing isn’t all that fun. Our on-site (no book, no google) written competency tests take approximately 2 hours to complete (yes, we’ll give you a Red Bull). Simply, we find, hire and train the most talented individuals possible and we work hard to keep them.

Serving since 1998. We’ve been in the web hosting business for over 10 years (in “internet years” that’s something like 30 years!). We're not “fly by night” - we’re not going anywhere. Our longevity and experience matters.

The web needed a new hosting partner. In 2006, shared server technology died. The web changed, and so have the requirements of site owners. Traffic is up and traditional servers are buckling under the pressure. A new solution was needed that could handle overnight load spikes without costly reconfiguration. We had to re-invent web hosting. If you’d like - go ahead and call us HOSTING 2.0.

Top tier data centers. Our data centers provide some of the highest level design and engineering features available in the world; surpassing uptime, security, cooling and power redundancy standards of most other hosting facilities.

World's greatest designers. The world’s hottest, most talented designers have trusted (mt) for years to serve their digital creations. Being the most critical demographic on the Internet, we believe this has strong merit.

Innovation. Over and over (mt) Media Temple has been first to market with new technologies. Notably, we were the first hosting company authorized to host iASP for Linux, Macromedia’s FlashCommunication Server, Zend’s PHP Performance solutions, Six Apart’s MovableType blogging software and now we have just released the world’s most powerful, affordable utility computing hosting platform, The Grid.

We rise to the challenge. Just like all complex systems, hosting services occasionally encounter problems. When something unexpected happens within our network that affects your websites, we immediately rise to the challenge and provide transparent status updates in real-time through our custom-built incident manager. Subscribe to the RSS feed for an incident to stay updated every step of the way until it’s resolved.

FatCow 'Goes Pink' for Breast Cancer (October 10, 2008) - Web hosting provider FatCow Web Hosting (www.fatcow.com) announced on Wednesday it is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donating $1 from every new signup during October to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).

Last week, FatCow announced it is celebrating its 10 year anniversary by throwing a contest that rewards 10 year web hosting contract, in addition to offering a special anniversary promotional price of $78 a year for its its Original FatCow web hosting plan.

This is the second year that FatCow is participating in the Pink for October program (www.pinkforoctober.org), with donations benefiting breast cancer research, education and advocacy. In support of the cause, the company is also displaying a pink ribbon with its logo at the top of every page of its website for the entire month.

The Pink for October website, which is hosted by Media Temple (http://mediatemple.net/), was launched in 2006 with roughly 1,500 sites participating.

This number doubled in 2007 with 3,000 sites "going pink," and the organizers hope that this figure will only continue to increase with each year.

According to the website's "about" section, "raising money isn't the primary purpose" of the program. The organizers hope that the program will raise awareness about the disease, and that people will educate themselves about breast cancer issues.

The Pink for October program encourages sites to 'Go Pink' in an effort to increase awareness about breast cancer, educate people on the disease, and raise money for research.

"It is vital to raise awareness and educate people, and it is essential to find advanced ways to diagnose and cure this terrible disease," says Paul Bukhovko, marketing manager for FatCow. "As a company, we want to do what we can to help in the fight against breast cancer. And, we hope that by donating to the American Cancer Society, we can help bring hope one step closer to those affected by this disease."

FatCow provides a range of shared Web hosting solutions, including website management, domain registration, email, e-commerce, scripting and add-ons, and marketing services, for individuals and small businesses.

In its press release, the company says it "pioneered the one plan, one price philosophy" when it began offering its all-in-one Web site hosting package.

Media Temple Uses Cloudmark Plug-In (August 5, 2008) - Messaging security provider Cloudmark (cloudmark.com) announced on Tuesday that web hosting provider Media Temple (mediatemple.net) has successfully deployed the Cloudmark Authority plug-in alongside its existing Apache SpamAssassin (spamassassin.apache.org) implementation to deliver higher message filtering accuracy and performance.

The Cloudmark Authority plug-in enables users to deliver enhanced protection against spam, phishing and viruses. Media Temple rolled out the plug-in to more than 250,000 of its mailboxes, joining many other service providers in deploying the Cloudmark Authority solution, including business-class email hosting provider MailTrust, and Australian Web hosting provider Melbourne IT.                                                                   The Cloudmark Authority plug-in for Apache SpamAssassin enables Media Temple to seamlessly integrate the solution into its current environment in less than one day. As a result, Media Temple's customers is provided with better messaging protection without any material system changes.

"Almost immediately after deploying the Cloudmark Authority solution, we experienced dramatic improvements in accuracy -- including higher catch rates and lower false positives," says Demian Sellfors, CEO at Media Temple. "The Cloudmark Authority plug-in integrated seamlessly into our existing SpamAssassin platform in less time and with fewer resources, especially compared to other solutions we evaluated. We are extremely excited about the positive improvements to our email services, which enables us to better protect our customers from spam and malware." The Cloudmark Authority plug-in for SpamAssassin helps Media Temple to more effectively spot spam, phishing and viruses, increasing its ability by 80 percent, says the company. This high accuracy is attributed to a combination of Cloudmark's Advanced Message Fingerprinting technology and real-time corroborated feedback from its live threat monitoring system, Global Threat Network system.

Cloudmark Authority enables companies to deliver high levels of protection against new threat outbreaks and zero-hour attacks without wasting IT resources and valuable administrative time, with the latest threat fingerprints automatically updated every 30 to 60 seconds.   The plug-in also helps to significantly cut hardware and data center-related costs, enabling Media Temple to more efficiently use existing hardware and reduce operational overhead.   SpamAssassin users can get a free trial of the Cloudmark Authority software here.

In June, Cloudmark launched Cloudmark ActiveFilter, a solution that cleans up unwanted messages delivered to the service provider mail store.

Media Temple Does Parallels Mac VPS (June 18, 2008) - Hosting and virtualization software firm Parallels (parallels.com) said this week that its Parallels Server for Mac had seen its first implementation in a hosting environment.

On Tuesday the company announced that hosting provider Media Temple (mediatemple.net), the product launch partner for the software, has launched what the press release describes as "the world's first Leopard VPS hosting solution," with its (xv) Xserve-Virtual server.

Parallels Server for Mac is a hypervisor server virtualization software that runs on Intel-powered Apple hardware, including Xserve and Mac Pro machines running Leopard Server or Tiger Server, according to Parallels.

The Media Temple website includes an informational section on the (xv) Xserve-Virtual offering, which is currently a private beta. Aside from vague references to "power" and "beauty," the advantages of hosting on Leopard Server appear to be the Mac-style management and monitoring if the server.

The site includes a link to an application form for the beta program, which appears to be targeted at experienced users of Apple's server software.

The beta version of virtual server offered the (xv) Xserve-Virtual product includes "2GB of RAM with a dedicated CPU core of an Apple Xserve with 8 3GHz CPU cores, 32GB of RAM with 15,000 RPM SAS drives in RAID."

"Through Parallels Server for Mac, we can apply our years of experience with web hosting technologies to deliver new services based on Apple servers," says Demian Sellfors, CEO of Media Temple in the Parallels press release. "For 7 years, Parallels has been an incredible partner who consistently delivers virtualization software and tools. It's been crucial to our business and has helped make us one of the largest Parallels Virtuozzo Containers virtual deployments in the world."

Parallels says the Server for Mac software includes the industry's first support for Mac OS X10.5 Server as a guest operating system in a virtual machine. The software is priced similarly to the company's existing Virtuozzo Container offerings. Complete information about the software is available on the company's website.

Last week we reported that Parallels CEO Serguei Beloussov will be delivering a keynote presentation at HostingCon in Chicago this July.
