New York Internet Most Reliable Web Host (March 2, 2009) - Web analytics firm Netcraft (www.netcraft.com) announced on Monday that it found New York Internet (www.nyi.net) to be the most reliable hosting company site during February.

The web host had failed to respond to only one of the requests made by Netcraft's team throughout the month.

This marks the third consecutive month for New York Internet as Netcraft's most reliable web hosting company.

The company previously shared the top position with Aplus.net and ZeroLag Communications in January, and with WestHost in December.

Rounding out the top five are UK2, Server Intellect, WebFusion and Pair Networks, all of which failed to respond to two requests in February.

Founded in 1996, New York Internet is located in the Wall Street area and owns and maintains its own data centers.

The company offers a range of services including dedicated servers, colocation and virtual web hosting.

New York Internet's main website is served by Apache running on FreeBSD, which is used by two other companies in February's most reliable hosting company sites.

Meanwhile, three of February's most reliable hosting company sites is using Linux while one web hosting site is using Windows Server 2003.

Netcraft measures and posts on its website the response times of the 50 leading hosting providers' sites each month.

The performance measurements are calculated at 15 minute intervals from separate points around the Internet, and averaged over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.

Three Hosts Top January Netcraft Survey (February 9, 2009) - Recording absolutely no failed requests, Aplus.net (www.aplus.net), New York Internet (www.nyi.net), and ZeroLag Communications (www.zerolag.com) all tied for first place as the most reliable hosting company sites in January, according to Netcraft's (www.netcraft.com) performance evaluation throughout the month.

In a trend that is becoming increasingly common, according to UK-based web analytics firm Netcraft, all three sites responded to all of its requests made at 15-minute intervals from separate points on the globe.

A single, clear winner of the survey has been becoming increasingly hard to determine in the past few months. Eight hosting companies shared the top spot in Netcraft's November survey of the most reliable hosting company sites, each showing only one failed request throughout the month. In its December survey, Netcraft named New York Internet and WestHost (www.westhost.com) the most reliable hosting company sites for the month.

Netcraft's ranking system is based on the number of failed requests, with results averaged over each day. According to Netcraft, the percentage of failed requests is more important to customers than shortest periods of outage, because it gives a pointer to the reliability of their routing.

This month, free operating systems dominated the top ten. Four sites ran FreeBSD and another four ran Linux.

Founded in 1992 as Abacus America, Aplus.net began offering Internet services in 1995, then hosting services in 1998, and has since grown to have 250 employees, more than 100,000 customers, including 6,000 dedicated server customers. They run Apache on FreeBSD, and last made the top spot in Netcraft's June 2008 survey.

New York Internet also runs Apache on FreeBSD site, and was also tied for first last month and this month marks the fourth consecutive month in which it made the top 10.

Los Angeles-based ZeroLag offers virtual private servers and fully managed dedicated servers and colocation, as well as T1 and T3 Internet connections, web development services and security consulting. Their corporate site runs lighttpd, and they were joint first in September 2008.

Netcraft Posts Most Reliable Hosts for Dec. (January 5, 2009) - Web analytics firm Netcraft (www.netcraft.com) announced on Friday that New York Internet (www.nyi.net) and WestHost (www.westhost.com) are the most reliable hosting company sites for December 2008.

This marks the third consecutive appearance for New York Internet in the top ten, which was the tenth most reliable host last month. Meanwhile, WestHost has held the top position for the second month in a row.

Last month, DataPipe, Aplus.net, iWeb, WestHost, Hurricane Electric, Server Intellect, Canada Web Hosting and Tiscali saw an eight-way tie for the most reliable hosting company sites for November 2008.

Located in the Wall Street area, New York Internet owns and maintains its own data centers. The company offers a range of services including dedicated servers, colocation and virtual web hosting, using Apache on FreeBSD to host its own site.

WestHost's services include shared web hosting, dedicated servers, reseller hosting and domain name registration. The company uses Linux for its main site and hosts more than 70,000 other websites.

Overall, half of December's top ten hosting providers use Linux for their main company site. Of the remaining five, three providers use FreeBSD, green.ch (www.green.ch/) uses the F5 BIG-IP device and Easynet (www.easynet.com) uses Windows Server 2003.

Netcraft measures and posts on its website the response times of fifty leading hosting providers' sites, which are made at fifteen minute intervals from separate points around the Internet.

The averages of the response times are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.

A full table of hosting providers' sites ordered by failures in December can be viewed on Netcraft's website

Last week, Netcraft released the results of its December 2008 Web Server Survey, which received responses from 186,727,854 sites.
