Cloud Linux Inc. Partners with UK2 Group (July 16, 2010) - UK2 Group deploys CloudLinux across its shared hosting and reseller servers. Cloud Linux Inc., a software company dedicated to serving the needs of hosting service providers, today announced that UK2 Group, a provider of web hosting solutions, has deployed CloudLinux on all of its shared hosting servers. According to the company, after three months of testing, UK2 Group chose CloudLinux to deliver increases stability, reliability and a higher hosting performance to its customers. It explains that CloudLinux's core technology is Lightweight Virtual Environment, a kernel-level technology that limits the amount of resources (CPU, concurrent processes) available to a group of processes. While similar to container type virtualization technology, LVE is completely transparent and lightweight. Once installed, the LVE works transparently to manage resources that the hosting provider sets for the accounts on a server. It controls the CPU resources to ensure that each account on a shared server is allocated enough resources to run efficiently without jeopardizing the other tenants on that server, making the server more stable and delivering better performance. The company avers that with LVE, CloudLinux can deliver performance, reliability and operational benefits for hosting providers including: - Increased density and capability per server without increasing risk
- More efficient and stable servers
- Reduced impact of unpredictable events like load spikes that can take down or slow down a server
- Reduced operational costs related to hardware, electricity, data center space and management costs
- Better utilization of existing infrastructure
It says that for UK2 Group, integrating CloudLinux across its server platform means: - Increased uptime so that no one account can slow down or take down an entire shared server
- Improved reliability and performance with a server that is running at peak operating capacity
- Protection from hackers and poorly written scripts that drain resources, cause outages, and impact productivity
The company mentions that with LVE, hosting providers like UK2 Group now have the tools to control the CPU demands of individual tenants, so that a single site cannot slow or take down a whole server and provide customers with the easy management and solid solutions they need to stay ahead in business. It further explains that CloudLinux is priced to support all types of hosting providers. For shared hosting providers, CloudLinux is available at a tiered retail monthly price based on the number of servers under management. The CloudLinux Partner Program offers discounts and more competitive pricing and a support model designed to meet the specific requirements of hosting companies as well as an opportunity to leverage the CloudLinux brand. "Cloud Linux understands the needs of hosting providers in delivering secure, reliable, high performance services to their clients," states Igor Seletskiy, Cloud Linux Founder and CEO. "With our proven technology, shared hosting providers like UK2 Group can achieve a higher level of service and support for their customer base." "UK2 Group is very pleased with the results of the deployment," states Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of UK2 Group. "CloudLinux allows us to improve stability and efficiency of our shared hosting platform. It virtually eliminates downtime for our servers caused by client's overloading the server. It also gives us good visibility into which clients are using the majority of resources, allowing increased management capabilities and higher density. We've been particularly pleased with the improvements we've seen on our large OnApp based cloud infrastructure in VPS.NET." VPS.NET Deploys R1Soft CDP (November 24, 2009) - Offers customers a more advanced level of data protection with user-ready CDP backups and individual file-restoration capabilities.
UK2 Group, a provider of domain name registration and web hosting services, today announced the availability of R1Soft Continuous Data Protection (CDP) across its extensive virtual private server cloud. The company states that VPS.NET now offers customers a more advanced level of data protection with user-ready CDP backups and individual file-restoration capabilities.
It explains that VPS.NET offers an "instantly deployable" image that can have a Continuous Data Protection (CDP) Server up and running giving customers complete administrative privileges over scheduling and managing their backups. The CDP software protects VPS.NET customers' environments by performing asynchronous replication of the target servers and archiving only the deltas or changed blocks to disk. Each replication creates a full backup that typically only takes minutes to create, even on larger data sets. This gives its customers the ability to perform more granular restores of individual files or folders as opposed to restoring the entire VPS, adds the company.
"Our team has been working closely with R1Soft for months on this project and we are pleased to say that we can now offer our customers scalable VPS hosting with a trusted high-performance data protection offering that can be deployed within minutes," said Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of UK2 Group.
"As one of the first large deployments of CDP on the cloud, the opportunity to work with VPS.NET's experienced virtualization team on this project has been very exciting for R1Soft. Adding CDP for Linux, Windows and MySQL, exemplifies VPS.NET's commitment to offering customers a wide range of self-managed services," said David Wartell, Vice President of R1Soft, a division of BBS Technologies, Inc.
UK2 Moves Support Fuctions In-House (March 5, 2009) - Web hosting provider UK2 Group (www.uk2group.com) announced on Thursday it plans to move all support functions in-house, despite the recession prompting many companies to turn to outsourcing.
As part of UK2 Group's strategy to leverage the best from its thirteen brands, the company is able to build an in-house support function which can now be rolled out across the UK2 Group.
Outsourcing support to less expensive countries has become a common practice in many industries, as the move can lead to cost reductions, greater flexibility and economies of scale.
Last month, budget web hosting provider Fasthosts announced it will soon replace its UK customer service team with offshore call centers in Romania and the Phillipines.
UK2 considered the risks involved with outsourcing, namely in the reduction of quality of service, loss of control of a key part of the business and decline in knowledge levels within the business.
After taking these factors into account, UK2 decided to move all UK2 Group support functions in-house, including a 40 employee out-sourced staff based in India..
Several other UK2 Group brands have already offered in-house support, the decision was made to move all UK2 Group support functions in-house.
"This is a big decision for us to make given the considerable economic uncertainty at the moment, but here at UK2 Group we are committed to putting our customers first," says Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of UK2 Group. "We have thirteen brands within the group, several have in-house support already and the others have various out-sourced support options so we have a lot of knowledge and experience. We believe that it is in the best interests of our customers to pool our support resources and provide a consolidated support function based in our Utah and Chicago offices in the US and London office in the UK."
The move to offering in-house support will also create more jobs within the UK2 Group, particularly in Utah.
The company has already established about 20 posts and expects this number to increase as more technical support and other support functions are moved.
UK2.net is the founding brand of the UK2 Group. The company has offered in-house support since the launch of its London based call center in spring 2007.
The company says that by consolidating support for all UK2 Group brands it is able to provide in-house online support for all customers because of the "convenient crossing of time zones and working hours."
UK2 Group provides domain name registration and web hosting services to global customers through its portfolio of hosting brands, which include UK2.net, midPhase, WestHost, 10TB.com, AN Hosting, Autica, Resell.biz, US2.net, WingSix, Supreme Support, Dotable, VI.net and the most recent addition, VPS.NET.
The new virtual private server cloud hosting system just entered the second phase of the beta trial, and is set to launch later this month.
