Beheading Video Web Site Shut Down (May 13, 2004) - A Web site that posted a video showing the beheading of American citizen Nicholas Berg was shut down by its hosting provider Acme Commerce Sdn Bhd (webserver.com.my), according to a report by the Associated Press.
Alfred Lim, business manager for the Malaysian-based company, told the Associated Press that his company was not aware whether the site, www.al-ansar.biz, may have had links to the terrorist organization al-Qaeda, reportedly responsible for the video, or that offensive material had been published on the site.
Lim said the site was shut down Thursday morning because it was attracting traffic that was taking up too much bandwidth. The video was reportedly posted on Tuesday.
Lim declined to reveal the identity of the customer who was hosting the site.
Acme Commerce hosts 5,000 Web sites in 30 countries.
