0. Introduction.

Welcome once again to the May edition of the Happiest webhosting
newsletter known to man: DreamHost's! It's especially happy this month,
because this month I finally took the plunge. I did something every man
hopes to do at least once in his life, if only they can find the right
match. I did something that will give me warmth and love and
companionship from now until the day I pass (or at least five or six
years hopefully). I finally bit the bullet and bought a new dishwashing
machine.

It's great! It's already changed my life in so many more ways than I
ever imagined! This new dishwasher (I've named her Betty) has a much
deeper top rack, so I can put really big bowls up there! She's got a
nice even array of spokes (is that what they're called?) in her bottom
rack which makes it so much easier to pack in dirty dishes! Her door
automatically swings up so you don't have to reach down so far to close
it! She's got a two, four, or even SIX-hour delayed start option! You
haven't lived until you've momentarily awoken to Betty going off on her
own at 4 am! Of course, you'll have to listen carefully, because Betty
is super-quiet at handling her business!

Betty is the best $300 I've ever spent. Plus $120 installation. Even
my fiance agrees (oh yeah, I also just got engaged).

1. 60% more bandwidth and disk on all plans!*

I would estimate that with Betty I can now do about 60% more dishes per
load, which means I can run her about 60% less often! To celebrate this
huge life event, we at DreamHost are giving everybody* 60% more storage
and bandwidth on every plan, across the board, effective last Friday!
And just like me cleaning the dishes, you don't have to do anything to
get the upgrade!

What's that *? Not much, really! Just that dedicated servers don't get
the 60% storage increase (their storage capacities are limited by the
hard drives in their machines), although they do get the 60% bandwidth
increase! Oh, and people on the Strictly Business sale plan from last
September aren't getting the increase either.. their plans already rock
so much, it's like having an array of seventeen Bettys in your house for
only $9.95/month!

In honor of this, I think I'll use the SIX hour delayed start tonight!

Did you know that some people that have dishwashers don't even USE them?
I know it sounds far-fetched, but it's true.. I've even met some myself.
For example, my fiance's parents have one but never use it. Well, they
do use it, but just as extra storage for pots and pans! That's a real
traveshamockery! You wouldn't buy a Ferrari and always keep it in first
gear would you? No, and neither would I. It makes me wonder what other
crazy genes my fiance might be hiding from me.. until it's too late!

What the * is it this time?! Just that this only applies to full shared

3. Hey Mister Doctor, why not register a .md domain?

4. These days, catch-alls are discouraged!

I've noticed that one thing even Betty has a hard time getting rid of is
SPAM. Whether it's ham, bacon, eggs, and spam, or just spam, spam,
sausage and spam, unwanted spam seems to really give her fits. After
each load there's always huge chunks of spam caught in her filter. I
really need to cut back on my spam somehow.

Fortunately, we've now got a tiny little technique to help cut back on
spam a bit.. we're no longer setting up the catch-all email addresses at
every new domain by default. This should help cut back on the amount of
spam everybody gets on average, since a popular spammer technique is to
just guess random common email addresses at every new domain!

If you currently have a catch-all email address set up that you're not
using, we recommend you delete it from our "Mail > Addresses" panel. Of
course, if you do actually want a catch-all email address, you're still
free to set it up whenever you want!

Just don't expect MY Betty to deal with YOUR mess!

5. New DreamHost Charity: Leukemia!

It's time again for the changing of the worthy cause listed in our
DreamHost Charity section at:

In the last two months, thanks to a big push at the end, we raised $500
for the Free Software Federation and $967.67 for the Electronic Freedom
Foundation from our customers, and then matched them both.

This month, the new cause is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,
dedicated to the cure and treatment of blood-related cancers. Visit
