Hosting Sales And Promos Round-up - The theme of this week's sales and promotions has been "free" services tacked onto paid accounts, including the free upgrades to CWCS managed hosting accounts and the RAM boost to SingleHop accounts, but also a free domain from Simplewebhosting with the purchase of a hosting plan, and free 34SP.com hosting with the purchase of a domain.
UK managed hosting service provider CWCS (www.cwcs.co.uk) has included more features into its existing managed hosting packages, offering better hosting facilities at the same bargain prices. Upgrades, according to the company, include 50GBs of Web space, 6500 new mail boxes and 350GB of data transfer.
Chicago-based Web host SingleHop (www.singlehop.com) offered a free 2GB RAM upgrade to all new and current managed dedicated server customers this week after completing its $100,000 memory upgrade project. Previously, more than 900 customers had less than 2GB of RAM in their servers when the program started in July 2008. Now almost every customer has at least 2GBs of RAM. SingleHop said the program was aimed at "increasing customer loyalty and satisfaction, as well as improving SingleHop?s competitiveness in the marketplace."
Manchester, UK hosting provider 34SP.com (www.34SP.com) celebrated its eighth year in business this week by giving away free hosting for one year through to the end of November with the purchase of a domain name. "We couldn't let the special occasion pass without at least a small thank you to everyone," 34SP.com business director Stuart Melling said in a statement. "Seeing as we couldn't easily send everyone free birthday cake in the mail, we had to come up with something else."
Another UK-based Web hosting provider, Simplewebhosting (www.simplewebhosting.co.uk) is offering a free .uk domain name with every Web hosting plan including .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.uk. With more than six million registered .uk domain names, it is one of the world's largest Internet registries. Simplewebhosting said the .uk top level domain plays to utility and patriotic fervor, citing a recent independent study that suggests British Internet users are six times more likely to choose a .uk rather than a .com address when searching for information and 72 percent of respondents also said they would rather visit a British web site over another.
While not offering something for free, dedicated server hosting company Redplaid Managed Hosting (www.redplaid.com) is notable this week for offering its components at discounted prices on a "first-come, first-served" basis. Its "Racked & Ready" for hosting customers looking for dedicated servers, firewalls and load balancers.
