1&1 Offers .name Domains for $2.99 - October 26, 2004 - Web hosting provider 1&1 Internet (oneandone.com) announced on Tuesday that it is offering .name domain registrations in the US market for $2.99 per year. The limited offer will run until December 21, 2004 and is available with all of 1&1's Web hosting packages. Existing customers are eligible to receive the price and there is no limit to the number of domains a customer can register. "The .name promotion is intended to help our customers make a distinctive mark on the Web," says Andreas Gauger, chairman of the board for 1&1 Internet. "It opens new possibilities for users who want to personalize their Web presence with a particular name that may not be available on another top level domain. It's an additional way for us to ensure that we're giving our customers all they need to be successful." It seems clear to me that they simply are not in control of their operations.
No uptime problems, and site response is OK.
Email services are very weak. No IMAP (at least on their basic plan) and worse, if I issue multiple email addresses, the users cannot set/reset their own passwords.

I have a website where I record my own audiobooks and publish them in .mp3 format. It's being a year since I started it. Then on Saturday all my .mp3 files disappeared. I called them and they said that storing media files are against their policy. So they just went and deleted it without any warning. So after a year they woke up and went on deleting files. They just kept exchanging mail saying they refunded the money and asking me to fax my bank's account details and transactions so they can talk directly to my Bank!!!!. They said it was our site files but we loaded a completely new site with nothing in the databases and it take about 5 minutes for the new site to load and then any link you click it takes 5 minutes for that to load. February 20, 2008 -anonymous- ( -no email- ) | vDeck is an awful system. The FAQ and knowledge base are not helpful. Most frustrating experience I've ever had as a web designer. I agree, they make it very hard for people who like PHP/MySQL, but I managed to get it working after several hours of trying to figure out how to connect to the databases on my own. I would recommend paying a little more money and getting an easier host to work with.

February 21, 2007 Tim ( tim@m... ) | Dot5 was an account I got because they were cheap. I also purchased a domain through them. Now, trying to move that domain to my reseller account elsewhere, they require you to open a support ticket to get the domain unlocked. Well that was two weeks and several emails and phone calls ago, the domain remains locked, so I either pay eternal hosting costs or lose the domain. I'm ticked off with them, I would NEVER recommend them for any reason.

I particulaly made my web-site to be fast... My web-site never got a high transfer rate or good response time !! It was even going down sometimes... I was faster and more reliable on my AMD 900 Mhz, 256mbs html server on a Cable connection !!!

Tech support is ran by a bunch of idiots. They have no people skills. I think they are all foreigners, who can't really speak english! No offence! I'm a foreigner, but at least I can speak english! No customer service training at all. After less than a month, I finally gave up and transferred my site. Thank goodness they offer 90 days money [...]

January 9, 2006 jay ( skitzoe708@a... ) | i used this service $5/month i used this service for about a year it didn't really give me to many problems until i wanted to switch Name servers and i wanted to buy my domain name from them, so i paid the $7.95 a year and they still haven't sent me my information i keep asking them to send me the information needed to alter my DNS and to unlock it so i can transfer my domain name to a more reliable domain server.
