Technology: Standard vs. PLUS hosting plans
EDIS hosting plans by default work with suPHP. Using this technology, every click on your website causes a 22 MB php-binary to be opened and translate the requested PHP-file and then shutdown again. Thanks to enormous amounts of RAM in the servers, huge amounts of static user content can be cached in fast RAM, but PHP-files need to be "translated" on every single click - again and again.
EDIS PLUS hosting packages offer state-of-the-art PHP technology, which allows the make use of a so-called "preemptive opcode cache". Compared to the standard PHP webhosting plans, PHP runs as a "server application" , and remains in memory resulting in a major reduction of overhead.
The major advantage however, is the combination of this technology with a fast opcode cache. PHP files don't need to be re-compiled on every single click - already translated versions of the files are kept in an ultra-fast memory and are to be accessed without delays caused by the translation with the PHP binary. This technology speeds-up response time and the page loading speed of your website. btw: an increase of the response time (latency) makes users "feel" a "tremendous" speed-up of the page.
Backup Insurance: RESTORE+
As you probably know EDIS ensures that all your website data and databases are backuped daily and backups of every single day are kept for you for up to 30 days. Restores from the backup must be paid for though.

Virtual Root Servers - also known as vps or vserver - are the cost-effective alternative to dedicated root servers. You enjoy the benefits of a dedicated server (root access, install your own programs, ...) and benefit from the flexibility of virtualized operating-system instances in a shared physical server.
EDIS runs 2 different kinds of production systems to offer a cost-effective solution based on the linux vserver hypervisor (context virtualization) and a fully virtualized product with the mighty "kernel based virtual machine" also known as KVM. All production systmes are equipped with Intel® processors and take full advantage of the Intel®VT hardware-virtualization routines.

Damian F. ( damian@x... ) | I host with them for over 5 years by now. Superfast support, very personal approach. they are taking time for the clients and try to understand the customers' needs. Minor downtimes so far. If you are looking for a hoster in Europe, edis would be my personal recommendation.

-anonymous- ( -no email- ) | This provider offered good products and excellent service in the past. Years ago. Today they offer average products you may also get for half of the price. We experienced big problems with our sites performance the last months. Especially when our sites were opened in foreign countries. Even in European ones. Most recently their MySQL service was constantly resulting in time-outs. It seems they are working on it, and performance increases again. Last but not least the customer service. In the [...]
