nexcess.net overviewAbout NexcessNEXCESS.NET was founded in 2000 as the proverbial "two guys in a garage" with aspirations of providing good, quality hosting services to the masses. The masses, in the beginning, were simply friends, family and any other people we could convince into using our fledgling service. It was very slow going in the beginning which gave us time to think...and write software. The InterWorx™ brand of web hosting control panel software was actually born, in part, out of our early days of tinkering. InterWorx™ was spun off in 2005 but we still take time to tinker during the slower days, even if they are fewer in number.
Today... and Beyond
Our client base has grown since those early days and we can attribute this growth to our focus on old fashioned customer service. To this day our main source of new clients is via word-of-mouth and while many folks refer clients to us as a matter of course we do actually offer a reward for referrals. A large part of our success can be attributed to the relationships built with clients over the past years. Many of our clients have grown from very small businesses or tiny botique sites into large operations requiring complex hosting solutions over the years and we've had the pleasure of helping them grow.
As for our own growth we opened our own Data Center facility in late 2006 which allows us to provide an even higher level of customer service and support. Our data center is located in the Detroit metro area (Dearborn, MI), and we've recently begun working to make it a 100% "green" facility - beginning what will be a long committment to green web hosting. Additionally, we've released 3 new brands to further expand our web hosting offerings into virtual private servers, dedicated hosting and Michigan colocation. These new brands will round out our product offerings to provide a complete hosting growth cycle for our clients:
* MaxVPS - MaxVPS provides virtual private server (VPS or VDS) which give growing websites a cost effective upgrade path to a dedicated server. VPS systems provide the security and performance of a dedicated server but at shared hosting prices.
* EliteRAX - EliteRAX provides dedicated servers, clustered server setups such as load balanced clusters and high-availability clusters as well as colocation solutions at our facility. As clients outgrow shared and VPS hosting EliteRAX has a variety of offerings from the standard fare to the completely custom to handle this growth.

The garage days have been over for a while and even though we all sit in offices now we sometimes go home at night to work in the garage (or basement) again for old times sake. Our focus is still our clients and this will never change. We will continue to morph our business as our client's needs change as we've done in the past. We'll also continue to diversify our offerings to keep one step ahead of what the market needs while staying true to our core business. Well the support has been horrible since the day the migration took place. It is going on 3 weeks now and I have yet to begin working on my site. Royce ( royce@j... ) | Everything has been fine with nexcess.net (their customer service is excellent) until 6/18/10 when all their nameservers crashed! I have approximately 10 sites, including customer sites, hosted there on my recommendation. Imagine my dismay when all the sites suddenly disappeared!
The only place I could get any information was Twitter - all the other folks on nexcess posting there about the failure.
I guess anyone can get one screwup, but please nexcess, let us know what happened and [...]

Trevor Howard ( thoward233@a... ) | I switch almost a year ago from Host Gator. Gator's support was very hard to get a hold of. I was on hold all the time. Nexcess has great speed, always up and excellent support. Their on-line help manuals are top-notch. I would highly recommend Nexcess for any hosting needs. The price is not the lowest, but you get what you pay for. Its certainly worth it if your running E-Commerce.

I've been with Nexcess.net for a long time. There service is #1 Top notch. I cannot stress that enough. If you enter a ticket, a REAL human is on your case through email in a matter of minutes and it doesnt matter what time of day.
The service is also stable and can take peaks. They dont seem to over subscribe their servers at all.
The Bad
The cost is higher then most, the bandwidth limits are low. Thats it...

Jess ( fivesix@g... ) | I switched to Nexcess from a shared host because I wanted a host that could withstand some of the surges and peaks in traffic my website experience.
I explained this to Nexcess and they put me on a dedicated server, dual xeon, 2.8ghz with 3 gigs of ram. At the first peak in traffic the site went down for several hours, costing me several thousands of dollars in business.
The sad part is, my website only experienced 1k visits over the course of the day, and their DEDICATED server [...]

At the time the dell dual xeon line was the best we had. This was also before the SIP plans were created and when Magento itself was still very young and much more resource intensive than it is now.
