Three Hosts Top January Netcraft Survey - February 9, 2009 - Recording absolutely no failed requests, Aplus.net (www.aplus.net), New York Internet (www.nyi.net), and ZeroLag Communications (www.zerolag.com) all tied for first place as the most reliable hosting company sites in January, according to Netcraft's (www.netcraft.com) performance evaluation throughout the month. In a trend that is becoming increasingly common, according to UK-based web analytics firm Netcraft, all three sites responded to all of its requests made at 15-minute intervals from separate points on the globe. A single, clear winner of the survey has been becoming increasingly hard to determine in the past few months. Eight hosting companies shared the top spot in Netcraft's November survey of the most reliable hosting company sites, each showing only one failed request throughout the month. In its December survey, Netcraft named New York Internet and WestHost (www.westhost.com) the most reliable hosting company sites for the month. Netcraft's ranking system is based on the number of failed requests, with results averaged over each day. According to Netcraft, the percentage of failed requests is more important to customers than shortest periods of outage, because it gives a pointer to the reliability of their routing. This month, free operating systems dominated the top ten. Four sites ran FreeBSD and another four ran Linux. Founded in 1992 as Abacus America, Aplus.net began offering Internet services in 1995, then hosting services in 1998, and has since grown to have 250 employees, more than 100,000 customers, including 6,000 dedicated server customers. They run Apache on FreeBSD, and last made the top spot in Netcraft's June 2008 survey. New York Internet also runs Apache on FreeBSD site, and was also tied for first last month and this month marks the fourth consecutive month in which it made the top 10. This is roughly the 20th time in the last 18 months, the last time had a 48 hour down period.
Not a clue about internet marketing, or they wouldn't operate this way. Just a bunch of incompetent geeks who like to run machines and charge people for them.

The first couple of years with West Host were really great. Customer service and the uptime were awesome. Then West Host sold out and started sliding downhill. August 24, 2009 Jack Mendorff ( aqzq33@y... ) | Technical support answers quickly but does not solve the main problem we have been having for quite a while now - Scripts are being disabled on many of our clients domains because WestHost apparently has so many other clients jammed on thier VPS Servers that the resources are over-used and the techs have to quickly disable scripts on random domains in order to keep the limited resources working on the over-sold and over crowded servers.

May 16, 2009 James Moody ( james_moody@y... ) | I was on automatic credit card payment. There was some kind of problem processing my credit card payment (even though it is current and valid) and they disabled my account. I realized this on a Friday afternoon. I used the online system to pay but my account remains disabled.
I contacted customer service and they indicated that the billing department will not be in until Monday morning adn that nothing can be done. My web sites will remain down all weekend.
I am pissed!

Have been down more in 6 months with Westhost than in 5 years with my last hosting compnay. We get no apologies, no warnings, and it is usually beyond thier control. I am moving, stay away from these guys...

My site speed has rapidly declined as they over sell their bandwidth. Every attempt to fix the issue was riddled with excuses and the worst thing is if you read their policies, NO REFUNDS. So even though their service has declined you don't get your money back! Stay clear of them and save yourself the time, money, and hassle!
