Have used avahost.net since 2003. No problem or hassle until last 2006. I have now had 6 months of unreliable SMTP server availability. Their lack of a published phone number makes it impossible to get to the root cause in an efficient way. I have decided to leave them, despite the pain of transfers.

HORRIBLE HOSTING !! They advertise a 99% up time on their servers, GUARANTEED or your money back. But there is no way to collect on that guarantee since the only contact is thru email and all I get is " our higher level support has been notified of the problem" . Even had one that said there is no problem as far as they can see....30 minutes later another email that said the server was down and they are working on the problem. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS HOSTING SCAM !!!

They have good features and a decent price. But they offer a very slow MySQL database access (queries takes long time, so if you are using dinamic created webpages, your site gets lagged).
Also, I run a mailing list that sends, every 15 days, an e-mail to 2.000 subscribers. It were for more than a year, out of nothing, one day, they decided that I am an spammer and blocked my hole site. Not only my SMTP, but everything.

Their customer service is terrible. I give people credit who work a customer service position, I understand it is thankless, but at least do the best job you can. Response time is terrible, if there is a response at all, and the response is typically not very helpful. At one point, their UPS went down and they LOST my website. Luckily my webmaster had the files, so he could get it back up. They gave me 3 months free hosting for that. Wow.

I have had a website with Ava Host for a week now and still have not been able to publish my site. It takes forever to get a response from their supposed support. They do not reply to email at all and I have to open a help desk ticket almost daily.
Their claim that it is easy to build your site even if you are a beginner is absolutely bogus. You have to activate a Site Builder (took several days and several help desk tickets) then it does not work half of the time.

I've been a customer of Avahost for over three years, with very few hiccups.
Two days ago, they shut me down - a primary domain and two additional domains I use for business, mainly email.
There was NO warning, nothing. I am paid up, in full.
I tried contacting Avahost through email, their silly online chat (which appears to be online, but isn't), their online form, and finally their job ticket system (which is sort of buried.)

I recently got on the avahost wagon and so far I'm impressed. After updating my DNS settings with my old Lycos package, my site was up and functional within a couple hours, with great download speeds. Also, good stats and logging facilities. So far so good!
