HP to Cut 1,580 Jobs in UK web hosting news |

Use submit form for hosting news!| HP to Cut 1,580 Jobs in UK Jul 5, 2002 | US computer and server equipment manufacturer Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP.com) is reportedly finalizing its plans to eliminate 1,580 jobs in Britain, more than 20 percent of the company?s workforce in that country.
The cuts are a part of a larger group of 15,000 positions being eliminated by the company following Hewlett-Packard?s acquisition of Compaq Computer Corp. several months ago.
HP employs 150,000 people around the world, with approximately 7,600 of those in Britain.
Among the jobs to be cut are 450 permanent positions and 180 temporary jobs at the former Compaq plant at Erskine near Glasgow in Scotland. The plant will continue to operate, and continue to employ about 900 people.
The rest of the cuts are set to take place at sites in London and Reading in southern England and Livingston in Scotland.
