provider of Internet infrastructure services, and
Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (iij.ad.jp) and IIJ America Inc., yesterday announced their plan to offer
managed IP Virtual Private Network services to
enterprises in Japan.
The IP-VPN offering will enable Japan-based businesses
and organizations to establish secure Internet-based
communications between locations in Japan and the
United States via the Internet. A special introductory
offer for the service will be made from Sept. 4, 2001
to March 31, 2002. Customers who sign up for VPN
services during the introductory period will receive
the service free of charge for three months.
``IIJ has worked closely with Genuity to integrate our
award-winning managed IP-VPN service with their
security offering. As a result, Japanese customers
have the best possible combination of IP-VPN services
available to them,'' said Genuity International
president Gabriel Yackanich. ``When Genuity won an
industry award for managed security services this
year, it proved that IIJ had teamed with the right
partner.''
``We anticipate an increasing need over the next few
years for global networking by our high-end corporate
customers in the Japanese marketplace,'' said Koichi
Suzuki, president and chief executive officer of IIJ
and chairman of IIJ America, IIJ's New York-based 88.2
percent owned subsidiary. ``As investment in new
corporate network systems is growing in Japan,
blue-chip corporations require premium VPN service for
international networking. This new VPN service
demonstrates our commitment to developing our
international business and offering total solutions to
our customers. We will continue to work at extending
our service availability to the United States and
Europe.''
The service is available on DSL, T1/E1 and T3/E3
lines. It will use Nortel Networks Contivity VPN
switch family, which scales from a few IP VPN tunnels
up to 5,000 tunnels per switch over the Internet.
IIJ's IP VPN service includes 24 x 7 monitoring and
management by security experts, hardware and software
maintenance, customer support, and event response
services ensuring secure, reliable global IP-VPN
communications. The VPN topology is flexible enough to
respond to a wide range of network configurations and
bandwidths, and enables controllable access to each IP
address for high levels of security. Further enhancing
customer convenience, the IIJ service offers
Japanese-language support in the United States, as
well as payment in yen, for Japanese companies based
in the United States. | Reads: 659 | Category: General | Source: TheWHIR : Web Host Industry Reviews URL source: http://www.thewhir.com/marketwatch/genuity905.cfm
