has announced the opening of a new Web hosting center in Tokyo that
features special earthquake-resistant facilities
because of the high number of earthquakes that occur
in Japan.
The new center is part of IBM's e-business hosting
growth in Asia and other parts of the world. Last
month, IBM announced that it had signed more than
$1billion in new Web hosting customers during the
first six months of 2001 worldwide. IBM has opened new
Web hosting centers in Shanghai, China, Hong Kong and
Taiwan and Buenos Aires, Argentina during the past
four months, and has an existing center in Tokyo.
Worldwide, IBM operates more than 35 e-business
hosting centers around the world.
As in IBM's other hosting centers, the newest
Tokyo-area center offers services ranging from fully
managed services to facilities services. IBM will help
customers integrate e-business with their current
business systems and business models by providing help
with Web site startup, e-commerce and application
hosting solutions, including Enterprise Resource
Management, Customer Relationship Management and
Supply Chain Management.
"IBM's ongoing expansion of e-business hosting in
Japan represents our focus in providing secure,
reliable and scalable e-business environments to our
customers," said Albert Han Kiat Lee, general manager,
e-business hosting, IBM Global Services Asia Pacific,
"IBM's proven strategic outsourcing experience in
Japan ensures that our hosting center operations and
consulting services provide technical and business
expertise for customers' end-to-end hosting
requirements."
The new Tokyo-area hosting center features
state-of-the art Internet backbone connection,
firewall, security and management services, including:
Gigabit Internet access
24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year support for
customers' e-business requirements.
Security practices, including "ethical hacking" and
security diagnosis services.
Facilities security, including a beam-sensor
security card system and biometric locks.
Availability of IBM's server operation architecture
to enable customers to easily add equipment to their
hardware infrastructure.
Last month IBM announced 30 new Web hosting services
that can be tailored for hosting customers around the
world, including expanded security, retail Web site
