IBM Opens Hosting Center in Japan Sep 4, 2001
IBM (ibm.com/services) has announced the opening of a new Web hosting center in Tokyo that features special earthquake-resistant facilities because of the high number of earthquakes that occur in Japan.

The new center is part of IBM's e-business hosting growth in Asia and other parts of the world. Last month, IBM announced that it had signed more than $1billion in new Web hosting customers during the first six months of 2001 worldwide. IBM has opened new Web hosting centers in Shanghai, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan and Buenos Aires, Argentina during the past four months, and has an existing center in Tokyo. Worldwide, IBM operates more than 35 e-business hosting centers around the world.
As in IBM's other hosting centers, the newest Tokyo-area center offers services ranging from fully managed services to facilities services. IBM will help customers integrate e-business with their current business systems and business models by providing help with Web site startup, e-commerce and application hosting solutions, including Enterprise Resource Management, Customer Relationship Management and Supply Chain Management.
"IBM's ongoing expansion of e-business hosting in Japan represents our focus in providing secure, reliable and scalable e-business environments to our customers," said Albert Han Kiat Lee, general manager, e-business hosting, IBM Global Services Asia Pacific, "IBM's proven strategic outsourcing experience in Japan ensures that our hosting center operations and consulting services provide technical and business expertise for customers' end-to-end hosting requirements."
The new Tokyo-area hosting center features state-of-the art Internet backbone connection, firewall, security and management services, including:
Gigabit Internet access 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year support for customers' e-business requirements. Security practices, including "ethical hacking" and security diagnosis services. Facilities security, including a beam-sensor security card system and biometric locks. Availability of IBM's server operation architecture to enable customers to easily add equipment to their hardware infrastructure.
Last month IBM announced 30 new Web hosting services that can be tailored for hosting customers around the world, including expanded security, retail Web site assistance and new Linux Web hosting offerings.
