provider, has been awarded a three-year contract to
provide and manage the Web hosting operations for
Diageo (diageo.com),
one of the world's leading premium drinks companies.
WorldCom will provide Diageo with data center space,
hardware, software, Web hosting services, 24x7 site
management and connectivity to its expansive IP
network. Diageo will use WorldCom's Web hosting
services to develop greater worldwide awareness of its
global brand of blended whisky, Johnnie Walker, and
famous stout, Guinness, from its operating base in the
U.K. Diageo was formed in December 1997 through the
merger of Guinness and GrandMet.
"From large, complex Web sites, like Diageo's, to the
most elementary online presence, WorldCom offers
complete fulfillment for any customer's requirements,"
said Ron McMurtrie, WorldCom vice president of
e-services. "WorldCom provides the full range of
services, from simple shared and dedicated hosting to
the fully-managed hosting solutions that are becoming
the digital strategy of choice among business
enterprises."
According to a recent survey by the analyst and
consulting company, OVUM, the worldwide market for
managed Web hosting services will increase in value
from $4.7 billion in 2001 to more than $27 billion in
2006, and will account for 56 percent of the overall
Web hosting market.
WorldCom has enhanced its ability to meet the growing
demand for high-end managed hosting services, such as
those being provided to Diageo, through its alliance
with Digex - a managed hosting and applications
service provider in which WorldCom has acquired a
controlling stake.
WorldCom Web hosting services that include Web server
co-location to shared, dedicated and custom managed
hosting services. Each runs over WorldCom's global IP
network, through the company's state-of-the-art data
centers located throughout the United States, Europe
and Asia Pacific. Web hosting services are part of the
