(level3.com), a global communications and information services company, today announced it has signed an agreement to provide broadband services to Japan Telecom America, Inc. (jt-america.com), a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Telecom Co., Ltd., one of Japan's largest communications companies.
Specifically, Japan Telecom America has purchased intercity transmission
capacity from Level 3 in North America using Level 3's (3)Link Private Line
service. With (3)Link Private Line, customers purchase dedicated amounts of
bandwidth connecting fixed locations while bypassing the public switched
telephone network.
The service is typically purchased by companies that need to efficiently
transmit large amounts of data, video or voice.
Japan Telecom offers a range of telecommunications services throughout Japan
and the rest of the world, and owns a controlling stake in J-Phone
Communications, a leading Japanese provider of wireless communications
services. In 2000, Japan Telecom had operating revenues of more than $4.4
