VeriSign Releases Q3 Domain Brief Dec 6, 2007
Internet infrastructure services provider VeriSign (verisign.com) announced on Wednesday it released its third quarter 2007 Domain Name Industry Brief, revealing some 12 million new domain names were added over the past quarter. The total number of domain name registrations worldwide across all TLD names is 146 million, showing a 31 percent increase over the same quarter last year.

The brief offers insight into how important internationalized domain names are in enabling people of all languages to effectively navigate the Internet.

Country Code TLD saw a 38 percent increase over the same quarter last year with China's .cn taking in the largest growth at 20 percent and the Russian Confederation's .ru having the second greatest growth at 12 percent quarter over quarter. Germany's .de is still the largest ccTLD with .cn and .uk following. These three ccTLDs comprise 45 percent of the entire ccTLD base.

During the quarter, VeriSign processed upwards of almost 32 billion domain name system queries per day, with each query representing a case of someone accessing a website or sending email. The VeriSign DNS maintained 100 percent operational accuracy and stability during the third quarter of 2007, just as it has for the past nine years.
