PKWARE Integrates Comodo Jun 19, 2008
IT security solutions provider Comodo (comodo.com) announced last week that data security software company PKWARE (pkware.com) has selected Comodo to provide integrated PKI security features with its recently launched SecureZIP 12.1 product.

As the creator of the ZIP standard, PKWARE provides products that ensure the security and portability of data, both internally and with partners, across all major platforms.

The company says its services are used daily by hundred of global organizations in financial services, banking, retail, healthcare, government and manufacturing.

With this latest agreement, SecureZIP 12.1 can automatically request and install a Comodo digital certificate on a user's PC, enabling them to perform a secure file and email exchange. Comodo digital certificates are also used to digitally sign documents and email messages, assuring recipients that they are authentic.

The Comodo-PKWARE partnership will also see the development and deployment of the SecureZIP Global Directory, a depository of public keys for SecureZIP users that enables users to acquire the public key associated with an email recipient's digital certificate.

Comodo says it also plans to extend access to the SecureZIP Global Directory to its digital certificate customers later this year.

"Our deep experience in PKI enables us to add the value of enhanced security and trust to a wide range of software, hardware, and services," says Melih Abdulhayoglu, CEO and chief security architect of Comodo. "As the world becomes increasingly Internet dependent, PKI and digital certificates are fast becoming an important part of every business and household. We are proud of the role we're playing to make the Internet safer and more trusted."

Users can download a free version of SecureZIP for non-commercial use here.

Comodo says it provides the infrastructure that enables e-merchants, other Internet-connected companies, software companies and individual consumers to interact and securely conduct business online.

Earlier this year, Comodo launched its UserTrust program, a free feedback and rating platform for online merchants and customers similar to RatePoint.
