Use submit form for hosting news!| Google Fixes App Engine Flaw Jun 20, 2008 | Search engine giant Google (google.com) said on Thursday that it fixed the technical issue that caused the search engine's web application hosting service to go offline several hours this week.
The company also launched on Thursday its new paid service plans for its Website Optimizer, an online application that enables users to test a site's content for its ability to attract visitors.
Google discovered the cause of the App Engine outage, which prompted errors to data-store queries from subscribers' hosted sites on Tuesday, said App Engine manager Pete Koomen.
Koomen and his team set controls to ensure that queries would no longer set off the flaw and "bugs like this in the future don't affect the stability of the systems as a whole." He added that all of the App Engine systems are now running "operating smoothly."
The App Engine outage began approximately 6:30 a.m. PST with error returns to some data-store requests.
The problem would gradually worsen with the number of error returns significantly increasing between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and again at 12:40 p.m., until Google was finally able to fix the bug and return the system back to normal.
Launched last month, Google's App Engine is a platform for developing applications hosted on its own infrastructure.
The service competes with Amazon Web Services, which also provides offers a "cloud computing" platform for building and hosting web applications.
Google introduced the new Website Optimizer services in response to users who were looking for more in-depth, live technical assistance, rather than the free online resources the company offers.
The services cover design, set-up and implementation, report analysis, a la carte incident consultation, phone and Internet-chat support and personalized training.
The company has made a list of authorized consultants who will offer hourly services in three different plans -- the $250 plan will answer specific questions with a maximum of one call per hour, the $600 plan gives you three hours to deal with more complex issues with six months to use the time and the $1,200 plan allots eight hours of consultation over 12 months. | Reads: 898 | Category: General | Source: TheWHIR : Web Host Industry Reviews URL source: http://www.thewhir.com/marketwatch/062008_Google_Fixes_App_Engine_Flaw.cfm
