Eleven2 Switches to Apache Jul 8, 2008
Texas-based web host Eleven2 (eleven2.com) has switched platforms from Litespeed (litespeedtech.com) to Apache (apache.org) for better integrategration of the company's servers and the control panel application cPanel.

Announced Tuesday, shared, reseller, virtual personal server and dedicated hosting provider Eleven2 is the latest company to announce a move away from New Jersey-based LiteSpeed.LiteSpeed lost more than 600,000 sites in June according to UK internet security and research firm Netcraft.

Eleven2 is in the process of switching nearly 60,000 of its currently hosted websites to Apache. It has already transitioned most customers to the new platform without any service disruption or changes in application performance because Litespeed was designed to be compatible with Apache.

"Without Apache, our clients were unable to take advantage of many advanced management features that are available with cPanel integration. It is important we offer a platform that delivers on our promise to offer the best software environment for developers, and Litespeed was a bad choice for our customers," said Eleven2 CEO and founder Rodney Giles.

The switch, according to the company, also makes itĀ easier forĀ customers to control their Ruby on Rails applications through Eleven2's control panel customizations. PHP developers will also benefit, they said, because Eleven2 is now able to deliver the latest PHP updates and install custom modules for customers.

LiteSpeed contends that their servers have better performance and scalability than Apache. According to LiteSpeed, when processing dynamic content, LiteSpeed is more than 50% faster in delivering PHP content than Apache with mod_php.
