BlackMesh Hosts Green Social Network Jul 8, 2008
IT solutions provider BlackMesh (blackmesh.com) announced on Tuesday that e-business solutions developer CommonPlaces (commonplaces.com) selected the company to host its key customer websites, which includes Waste Management-owned collaborative 'green' social networking website Greenopolis.com (greenopolis.com).


In addition to hosting Greenopolis.com, CommonPlaces says it plans to have BlackMesh support its entire portfolio of customers, including Bennett Design Group, the Bath Showcase, Jaguar Print, Fore on 4 and Fix Your Water.  Available in beta, Greenopolis.com claims to be the first green interactive, collaborative, educational site designed among individuals, groups, schools and corporations to communicate directly with each other and share opinions and feedback on green initiatives and news, educational materials and products and services. 

Users can search by zip code for eco-friendly businesses and provides access to 'Green Games'. The Greenopolis.com beta site has already seen significant activity and with the recent launch of the main website, CommonPlaces says it expects a significant increase in traffic.    "With the upcoming launch of Greenopolis.com and expected popularity of the site, we needed a hosting solution that could manage increased activity as well as accommodate the addition of new features to the website," says Erich Beyrant, director of engineering at CommonPlaces. "Our previous provider did not understand our needs and could not deliver the technology and support necessary to meet our expectations. With its scalability and database architecture, BlackMesh has the resources to meet our traffic demands and the proven expertise to handle our future expansion, not only with Greenopolis.com, but with our entire customer base."  BlackMesh's hosting solutions provides Greenopolis.com with the necessary database architecture, web load balancing and security to support its current beta site, as well as the ability to scale. 

CommonPlaces is also able to use BlackMesh's unlimited service plan, which includes 100 percent uptime on the BlackMesh network, dedicated administrators and round the clock access to personalized support via phone, email or the web.  Beyond BlackMesh's technology support and services, CommonPlaces selected the company because it uses green technologies and methodologies that support Greenopolis.com's eco-friendly philosophy. 

The IT solutions company uses low power servers to reduce energy usage to only half the power of traditional servers from a year ago. The company says it also ensures its physical servers are installed according to the best practices for optimal thermal management to keep the temperature of the data center low.
