Use submit form for hosting news!| RapidSwitch Builds UK Facility Jul 18, 2008 | UK web hosting provider RapidSwitch (rapidswitch.com) announced on Friday it is building a new data center with a 20,000 server capacity, to meet the demands of its growing customer base.
Construction on the facility has started, and is scheduled to be ready for service in early 2009. The new site is near Maidenhead in Berkshire, UK, close to the existing RapidSwitch Hosting Centre, enabling direct connectivity between the two sites at multiple 10GB speeds.
There is also diverse connectivity from the new site to London, again at multiple 10GB speeds. The data center contains 600 racks, giving it a total capacity of 20,000 servers.
In the works since August 2007, the new site is in response to continued customer demand. The company was careful in finding the ideal location with appropriate power and connectivity.
The data center will act as technical space where new services to be installed. In other words, its existing services will continue and not be disrupted.
The company says it will provide more information about the site over the coming months, including a photo build diary of the site.
RapidSwitch currently hosts over 5,000 servers for a wide range of customers.
