Iomart Opens Nottingham Facility Aug 8, 2008
UK-based managed hosting and data center services provider iomart (iomart.com) announced on Wednesday that it has opened its Nottingham facility after an eight month upgrade and commissioning program.

The new data center, which was one of four facilities purchased by the company in February 2007, offers a little over 4,400 square feet of data center space and has been equipped with its own one megawatt on-site power supply and "the latest in energy efficient cooling systems," says the company.

Specifically, the company says the new cooling down flow units use seven percent less power than the units that were originally in place. The upgraded facility is also using Hot Gas Re-Heat technology to enable the data center to maintain its ideal room temperature by recycling heat expelled by the servers.

"The data center industry is a voracious user of power and we're serious about playing our part in reducing our impact on the environment, while leading the industry in our delivery of managed hosting services," says Angus MacSween, CEO of iomart.

In an effort to show its support for "green" initiatives, as well as promote its newly opened facility via an environmentally-friendly marketing message that, it seems, many companies have been inclined to use as of late, iomart has sent 2,500 oak tree saplings - capturing the Sherwood connection - to businesses in the city and surrounding areas with planting instructions and details of the new data center.

This is iomart's third facility, joining two refurbished ones that were opened in London and Glasgow, Scotland earlier this year. A fourth facility is expected to open in Leicester, UK in two weeks time.

Iomart says it has spent around $5.7 million on its data center upgrade program and in an annual report released last week, the company revealed that its data center ownership has led to a 17 percent rise in its sales of managed hosting services in the financial year 2007 to 2008.

In July, iomart sold its Internet directory search business Ufindus to BT for over $38 million to concentrate on its data center and managed hosting services.

Iomart says it will use the proceeds of the Ufindus sale to seek acquisition options over the next 12 months.
