Use submit form for hosting news!| KDDI Launches Singapore Facility Oct 15, 2008 | Japanese telecommunications provider KDDI (www.kddi.com/english) announced on Wednesday it has launched a data center in Singapore, marking its first Asia data center outside of China and Japan.
According to the company's most recent announcement, the facility has been operational since Wednesday and will be able to "provide the advanced information services that client companies want, while cultivating foreign customers, in addition to Japanese firms."
Although extensive details have yet to be released by the company, KDDI says its new Singapore facility has around 10,800 square feet of floor space, with plans to expand to approximately 16,100 square feet by 2010. The data center will be able to "power servers with high processing capabilities" and in-house power generation has also been set up.
KDDI provides fixed and mobile communications services to almost 30 million subscribers throughout Japan, and offers SaaS-based business communication-ware service accessible from both PC and cellular devices.
The telecommunications carrier has been developing its data center business since the late 1980s and has six facilities in Japan, one in Beijing and another in Hong Kong. KDDI says it is considering expanding its footprint to other parts of Southeast Asia as well.
The WHIR has reported on quite a few Asia data center announcements over the past few months.
SAVVIS recently announced it has opened its newly expanded Singapore facility for business, and in September, Rackspace expanded its operations into Asia with the opening of a new headquarters and data center in Hong Kong.
