Use submit form for hosting news!| Hostway UK Offers .info Discount Aug 3, 2006 | Domain registrar and Web hosting provider Hostway UK (hostway.co.uk) announced on Thursday it will be reducing the price of first-year new registrations of .info domain names as part of a promotion this August.
"The .info extension is probably the most undervalued of all the second tier top level domains, after .com .net. and .org, on offer in my opinion," says Neil Barton, director of Hostway UK. "There is a clear and universally recognized association between it, and the search for information about any given topic, service, or organization on the Web, so it makes complete sense to have one as part of your domain portfolio."
The .info domain is a neutral name that means "information" in 37 languages, says Hostway UK. Though the generic top-level domain is intended for informative Web sites, its use is not restricted. It was a part of ICANN's highly publicized announcement in late 2000 of a phased release of seven new generic top-level domains. The .info domain has been the most successful of the seven new names, with over 3 million names registered by mid-2006.
