Web Host Aplus Weathers Power Outage May 25, 2005
San Diego Web hosting firm Aplus.Net (aplus.net) announced on Wednesday it recently sustained a 12-hour power outage and managed to keep all of its 350,000 customers online.

Aplus.Net says its data center is powered by an uninterrupted power supply and a diesel generator, enabling the company's services to proceed as usual when the local power company had to cut the main power to perform preventative maintenance from approximately 10:40 p.m. on May 20 until 10:30 a.m. the next day.

"There were no surprises because we are always prepared for this sort of thing," says Ivan Vachovsky, CEO of Aplus. "Our subsystems and the backup generator in our data center are routinely tested and kept in top working order."

Aplus says its data center would remain unaffected even in the extreme event of an unplanned, city-wide power outage since its power systems are housed on San Diego's military power grid. Beyond that, the data center's uninterrupted power supply and diesel generator can power an entire facility for 36 hours without refueling, and much longer with scheduled refueling.
