Dot5Hosting Offering $2.50 Domains Aug 20, 2004
Web hosting provider Dot5Hosting (dot5hosting.com) announced on Thursday that it is now offering domain names for $2.50 a year.

Chris Phillips, CEO of Dot5Hosting, said the price, effective immediately, will be available for at least another year. "We have no plans to take it down."
Customers are not obliged to purchase a Web hosting plan to be eligible for the $2.50 price. However, Dot5Hosting intends to up-sell customers. The extremely low price is designed to increase our customer base and raise awareness of Dot5Hosting products and services, Phillips said.
Domain prices have dropped rapidly across the industry in the last year as Web hosting companies use the dramatically low prices to attract customers in the hopes of selling them other more profitable services. In June, Globat began offering domains for $3.99 per year and 1&1 Internet is currently offering .us domains for $2.99 per year in a promotional offer. EV1Servers (ev1servers.net) and Hostway (hostway.com) have dropped their domain pricing to $6.49 and $6.95 respectively.
Dot5Hosting also announced that it has launched a newly designed Web site. The site features a revamped, easy to use interface and a new page that outlines a top ten list of reasons for joining Dot5Hosting.
