Absolute nightmare from start to finish. Registered wrong domain names. Cancelled a domain name which never happened. Used their webhosting which is impossible to use and has no support whatsoever.
Have now had to resort to a friend to host my website and indeed will NEVER use 123 reg again. Waste of time, money and business. Contact and customer support is absolutely useless.

Concur with the majority of all the comments. Avoid like the plague.
I'm probably £700 out of pocket because I bought a dedicated server package
from them that I expected I would have full control over. No such thing.
I cannot install the software that I need and the server is useless to me.

I have been trying to contact 123-reg for 3 months to sort out one of my Email addresses.
I called their call center after numerous attempts through the control panel (which was useless) and waited 40 mins (remember - I'm being charged 10p per minute to listen to music while I wait). Eventually I get through and subsequently I am told I will be contacted.
This never happened.
After sending about 100 messages through the control panel, I finally get told its because I have set up my DNS record incorrectly. This is of great interest to me as I have never touched the DNS records.
Either way, you will have to be plain stupid to use 123-reg to do anything for you.
Utter rubbish.
(I still haven't resolved the issue).

Whilst Grumpy's initial sentiments are shared by myself and many other long-suffering customers of 123-reg, I don't think the final comments belong in a rational debate.
Although I regard myself as being pretty thick-skinned, I find Grumpy's final "death wish" comments extremely unpleasant and offensive. Whoever runs this review board should remove the post as it represents the ravings of a sick individual.

This company is an accident waiting to happen to YOU. They are the most technically incompetent, unsupportive, unhelpful shower of pooh ever to make an appearance in the web hosting business.
Being able to run a DNS server is basic to hosting, and this is clearly beyond them. May they all die of cancer. Slowly and painfully.

I have used 123 for several years for domain names without fault. More recently I set up a hosting account for a client and found that when we came into problems there was no support available whatsoever. We sent them dozens of emails and sat in telephone queues for over an hour before giving up on several occasions. When we did receive replies they were brief and badly thought out, they didn't solve our problem and there was no way we were going to resolve the issue. In the end I had to transfer the domain elsewhere and pay for a new hosting package myself. The job was delayed by about two months, I was out of pocket and my client was frankly furious.
I made the mistake of trying to set up another quick hosting package with 123-reg for a client the other day and although I was billed the account was not set up at all. I know I will never get anything back from 123 so have simply moved my business elsewhere. Again I am out of pocket. I will never use 123 again.
PS. To top it off they also renewed a domain name I had with them automatically with my credit card. I neither asked for this or wanted it. I didn't even ask them to keep a record of my card details... SHOCKINGLY BAD!

Yet another problem.
Now I find that one of my sites has vanished altogether from google. I decided to investigate. I find that I can't create a sitemap for ANY of my sites, & the googlebot spider simulator can't see any of the sites at all.
No wonder they're all disappearing off the search engines.
Worst of all the "123 support" (now THERE's a good joke) doesn't work - click it & the page doesn't exist. I've had a bout 3 more major problems since my last post (see below), including the websites not showing if you typed in the URL (pretty fundamental, eh?) & they haven't answered or resolved ANY of them.
So thats it. I'm swapping the lot to Daily.co.uk, I've started tonight. I spoke to Daily & it was like a breath of fresh air - real people who CARE & who know what they're talking about.

I have read most of the reviews and I really can identify with so many of them if not all of them !!!! On the recommendation of one of the chaps below I have moved my domains from 123 and others over to Daily.co.uk. I didnt realise that this company was in fact founded by all the founders, managers and developers who had brought to us 123reg and webfusion.
I had a long conversation with the guys there and got the scope that they all left when things went downhill after the sale to pipex and set up in competition. It's like coming back home to people who know what they are talking about. There products are similar to 123 but appear to have a higher spec. Definitely an improvement on the control panel. I also got this online drive thing for free with my domain transfers. Wasn't too sure what to do with it but that got me playing with it nad its fab product. I can store my files online securely and can share part of the drive with different people. I am really pleased

I have been using 123reg.co.uk for years for .co.uk domain registration, I've never used them for hosting as I require dedicated servers with root access which although they advertise dedicated hosting when I enquired I was told they are 'virtual dedicated servers' with no root access.
Anyway, for domain registration I have found them OK until now, I have 2 domains that are due to expire in November so yesturday I went to renew them. I paid a total of £13.58 for two domains to be renewed for 2 years. When I then checked the domains in the control panel they still showed as being due to expire in November 2007, ie had not been renewed. I double checked my bank to confirm the payment went through and it had.
I then checked my 'account activity' which showed only one invoice which was for just one domain renewal at £6.79 and clearly stated it had been paid. I then found the 08712309525 telephone and gave them a call. The kid on the other end of the phone called me a lier, stating that I had just paid the £6.79 for the one domain and that is all they charged my account. He said I would need to show HIM my bank statement to prove otherwise. This wound me up and when I asked to speak to a manager he cut me off.
I phoned again and spoke to someone else who appeared to understand the situation better and said he would pass it to the head office in London and it would be resolved by the end of the day. Well guess what it wasn't. This morning both domains are still showing that they are due to expire in November 2007, there is still just the one invoice showing in the 'account activity' and there is no response to my question via their support site which i eventually got to work.
This has totally trashed any confidence I had in 123reg.co.uk and I am now looking for a new registrar to transfer the domains to asap. I will get my money back from 123reg one way or another, even if it means me paying them a visit at the Nottingham address as I am not that far away.
Not a happy camper

123reg was really good in the early days but ever since this pipex telcom guys bought it out and fired all the people i use to deal and also not invest in updating the systems we've been plagued by nothing but trouble - billing mistakes, domains not registering, email system falling on its face often, and the most annoying of all - unable to reach anyone by phone (30mins once on a premium line!) or having no answers to support emails for weeks on end. They may be the biggest but definitely the bean counters at pipex have messed up a relatively good set up.
So i did what had to be done, move the domains ! I have spread my domains and hosting to other providers like 1and1, UK2.net, Names.co.uk, Daily.co.uk and UK reg. Interestingly, i found out that Daily.co.uk is actually formed by all the former staff of 123reg before the pipex takeover. So far so good - they actually answer the phone and emails promptly and its good to be speaking to some of the staff i use to deal with several years back - who actually knew what the heck hosting is about and not script reading !

I think it's vital that every customer removes their credit card details and opts to pay "manually" when renewals come up.
I did this a long time ago, whilst I was frantically moving all hosting elsewhere. Some of my domains are still registered with 123-reg, but I wouldn't trust this lot as far as I could chuck a grand piano.

I've been with 123 for some years & never had a problem - until now!
The thing that has really p'd me off, is that when you host a site with them, or even it seems just register a site, they *give* you 10 *free* pop3 mailboxes per site. No biggie, I don't use them, so have never paid any attention to them.
However, this week I got money debited from my account for 15 thats FIFTEEN pop3 mailboxes renewed at £9.96 each plus VAT - a total of £175!!! I have another EIGHTY FIVE of these bl**dy boxes that they *gave* me, & I can't get rid of them.
Now, apart from the fact that they *gave* these to me for *free*, and apart from the fact that I don't want or use them, & apart from the fact that I can't seem to cancel them, do they SERIOUSLY expect me to *give* them over £1000 per year for NOTHING!!
This is a serious RIP OFF - they've never done this before, its something new that they're up to, but they won't be seeing another penny of my money or my business ever again if they don't get their act together & refund me pronto.
Let people know about this, it is an utter disgrace & I believe falls under the jurisdiction of unsolicited goods - you didn't order it, they can't make you pay for it.

Fine if you want a cheap hosting company. That is until something goes wrong and you have to contact their customer support which is very poor. You currently have to pay 10p a minute and once you call you are often told it'll be over a 20 minute wait on hold until you speak to an advisor so that's £2 of your money gone before you speak to anyone if you can get through.
By the way their contact page used to have a contact phone number to speak to someone but now it looks like they've now redirected their contact page links to go to the 123-support site where the only way you can contact someone is with an email form and from past experience they take about 2 weeks to reply to those messages. And then it's usually a standard question about your problem, so send off another reply, wait another length of time you get the idea. So as long as you aren't running a business and don't have anything urgent on your sites then you might be okay.
I'm guessing they've done this to try and divert people from calling them (maybe cause people complain) but I just found their support number on the Pipex site:
http://www.pipexgroup.com/pg.asp?contactus
The staff aren't very knowledgeable, most sound like trainees that have to put you on hold while they ask a supervisor for help.
Really not happy as I have am running a business and can't afford to have my hosting run by people who are not clearly providing a phone number and wait 2 weeks to reply to technical issues. Hardly professional and do they expect to keep all their customers that way?.
I'm looking for a better company.

I used this company to set up a simple website. I had 324 templates to choose from so initially it was simple. Then i started to run into some problems and tried using the support section. The customer support is totally crap. Every answer i received was a generic answer designed to help no one. The reply tab disappeared once they answered my question which left me no options to reply. They offered me an incentive of 50 quid from microsoft ad centre which i accepted, but, not only did i have to pay further money to register, i received no credit!!!
I wish i had seen these reviews before i bought my package. There has to be far easier options out there!

123-Reg and Pipex - What a company!!
We are part of a large UK University and have used 123-Reg and the parent company Pipex, both for domain registeration and web hosting for a range of university projects. For a particular project, we used the Site Builder Package, and this has performed generally fine over the past two years or so. It's 'idiot guide' to website design is user friendly and simple, if not limited, but offers busy people easy access to website design and hosting.
However, over the past several months, 123-Reg Pipex have 'lost' or 'corrupted' data, which has resulted in an older version of our website being shown, despite much time and effort having being spent on an updated version. The current website is showing a version seven months out of date. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. We understand some customers have lost websites altogether, due to incompetence by 123-Reg Pipex.
Additionally, if one wants to move between the 'old' site builder packages, and the 'new' packages on offer, then you can, BUT you cannot transfer the data; which in effect means you lose the content of the website, and you effectively have to start again.
Customer Service Advisers, once connected via a very long telephone wait, are ill-advised and VERY poorly trained. Email responses are poor, do not address the crux of the issues, and are very slow to return.
This company is unsustainable in its current form, and judging by the negative comments posted here, will no doubt suffer financially. We are in the process of moving from 123-Reg and Pipex, and as a University, have recently written formally to Mike Read (CEO of Pipex). We await his response.
Our Advice - if a company such as 123-Reg Pipex ultises David Hasslehoff in a marketing campaign, then perhaps we customers should already know of the product on offer. PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION - DO NOT BUY!!

These guys suck, they advertise products without fully describing limitations which confuses people into buying the wrong items and then it takes hours on the phone to contact support only to have them refund all the wrong things until you have an even more incompatible combination. You are lucky if they even email you the correct passwords for your hosting accounts.
AVOID THIS COMPANY!

Have been using 123 for years with great results up until recently. Support used to be a bit pricey but you got gd support. Service has gone down hill since Pipex taking them over, am sure the call staff are students on half term. Have seen them run other companys into the ground, had to move isp due to these jokers last year trashing f2s. Support has gone dia, no reply's to emails, ALL services thaey offer are now flaky. Control panel has failed more lately than ever. Were moving 250 domains away from them due to pipex staining this once glorious run company.

Agree with all the recent posters here.
I used their SiteBuilder to build and host my business web site and it ranks as one of the worst business mistakes I have ever made.
The service is so bad they can only be trying to run it down with a view to getting rid of clients contracted to services they no longer wish to supply.
They don't answer the phone . If you do happen to get through you get cut off.
If you manage to speak to someone who promises to phone you back they don't.
They should be avoided at all costs.
A year or so ago I wrote to their head office asking for compensation in respect of lost business as a result of their failure to keep my business web site up and running - they never even bothered to reply.
This month my site has been down again for at least 5 days so far.
In 30 years in business I have not come accross worse service

They have managed to lose my domains, they have vanished from my control panel and despite sending four emails in the past two days still no reponse. Sounds like a job for Watchdog, there’s so many people experiencing problems with this company a bit of media exposure may give them a bit of a kick. Ok so they are cheap, but they are still committed to providing a service.
Avoid at all costs, they are nothing but a complete headache. They don't answer their phones, don't respond to emails, the only thing they are good at is taking your money.

looks like i'm not alone then!!
i am very very new to web design and hosting - i've learned some basic and medium stuff very quickly. but thanks to my experience with 123 its become very frustrating.
all i need to do is set up a form on my site, something simple that e-mails me the results... i have read the patheitc help screens, i have had a go - recieved errors, i e-mailed support and got a very confusing response (but at least i got a response) i had another go and got no where fast so re e-mailed and explaining that the support pages weren't helping - what did i get back a pasted response with the entire support page!!!
this is wasting my time and its losing money for the person i am doing it for... is there anyone here with the experience in this that can help me please????

I have one domain still hosted with these people, and when that expires I'll let it go. Day after day after day I get "Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming server" when I check for emails. Thankfully it's not an email address me or any of my known friends and associates use anymore, but I suppose there's a chance some old friend might try to contact me through it.
How many people are actually losing business because of this apalling service? Not just emails, what about web form enquiries? Are they all disappearing into the ether?
I've put 5 for Price and Control Panel, but I suppose they should both be 1? Not much point having something cheap or having a simple control panel if the service doesn't work.
Has the magazine that made them "Number 1" made any retractions or statements about getting it horribly wrong?
123-reg - absolutely awful company.
Leave well alone.

I registered with 123-reg with 2 .com names yesterday, but found out today it was against so trademark rubbish, so as worried as i was i tried to call them to cancel my orders.
I ended up waiting for hours before my mobile battery ran out, so i had no choice but to send them a e-mail, of which to my suprise they replied after only 4 hours, and told me i'll be refunded. But some how i still have the domains in my account???
Well hopefully the problem will be solved, and thinking about how much my phone bill will be.
All in all avoid this company the customer service is totally rubbish

Been with this company for just under a year, when I first joined July 2006 I could get thro on the telephone and the staff were helpfull in answering queries and problem solving, however yesterday the 6th of June at 9.0am I was foolish enough to purchase another instantsite builder and another domain name, cost £32, built the site in 1 hour and published it as I believed to the internet, 28 hours later and 4 unanswered phone calls (your told "There is a waiting time of over 25 minutes", which turns out to be over 1 Hour before you are cut off) when I try to see my uploaded website all I get is the 123-reg holding page, when I tried to obtain an online form from the support page I was told that my email address was not valid as someone else was using it, I've had the same email address for over 7 years, I understand that this company has been took over by Pipex Comms which explains why the service is so bad, this companies shares have plumeted on the AIM stock market over the last few years and if 123-reg is anything to go by I can understand why, my advice to anyone consemplating joining this rubbish company is don't bother, all you will get is totall frustration and high blood pressure. AVOID AVOID AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Control panel works OK, but if anything goes wrong, don't expect help. I've been on hold for over an hour at 10p per minute, no danger of any response though. I'll be moving all my, and my clients, domains. Any suggestions of a good registrar welcome.

Avoid 123 reg. I have been with them for eight years (never perfect - but okay )
but the service is now absolutely appalling. No replies to emails. After 8 days of no response. I called pipex customer services. I was assured my case would be escalated and taken to a supervisor.
Four days later - nothing.
I am moving all of my accounts which I am sure will not be without problems ( time, money hassle)
Do not be tempted by cheap domains. They do not have the business structure to run this operation and they really do not care. An absolute disgrace. I thought I'd be safer using a UK company. HA what a joke.

AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
What has happened to reg-123? I have registered domains with them for 5 years but they have gone into serious 'Don't give a sh*t about customers' mode. I bought domains from them recently yet my (different) host can only see some of them. Will they answer queries about this by email? Will they f*ck. Will they answer the phone? I waited over 60 minutes, then got cut off. What do you do when one of these companies does this? Who can you complain to?
Reg-123 are a disgrace. Lousy service. No support.

Beyond a joke. I have posted the full tedious story over at avoid123-reg. A client lost her website and emails for a month because they failed to transfer the domain name properly. Consequently it was stuck in limbo with no way of access or retrieval.
The support seems to be designed to drive one mad. If you keep things simple they won't understand and return stock answers. If you try to describe everything in detail they just won't read it. Eventually they will turn rude and sarcastic.
I was at the point of considering paying a personal visit to their offices with a baseball bat when Trading Standards came through and miraculously everything was sorted in one afternoon.
The problem is Pipex. It is surely no coincidence that I have also lost time, money and hair because of WebFusion and now Toucan. And I am far from alone.
Do not use any company that is owned by this evil entity, and ensure to get a sworn oath from any nice small business you may be considering dealing with that they will never sell out and get destoyed by these bastards.
Ever seen the episode of the Sopranos when they take over and "Bust-Out" Davey's sports store? This is exactly what Pipex has been doing to everything they touch.

123-reg failed to renew 3 .com domains - I emailed them to inform them - but they do not answer emails - so I phoned to complain.
I have just spent 65 minutes on the telephone waiting for technical support -
THEN THEY CUT ME OFF
£6.50 that cost me - for nothing
AVOID 123-REG LIKE THE PLAGUE

Wish i had read this site first!
I have been with easyspace for two years. Easyspace were trying to charge me £30 to renew my .co.uk and i got annoyed about this because they were charging new customers £9.50 for the same privellege. I contacted them and they assured me it would be changed but it wasnt and i just wanted it sorted so after paying £15 to get each of my two domains moved across to 123 i thought ok now it should be all sorted.
Up to then 123 were replying to my emails pretty quickly. As soon as it was transfered and i had emailed them to notify them of this the emails stopped coming. I had already had the problem of their system not accepting my credit card and no pending transfers being shown on their computer. I tried calling a few times and like it is stated here no one picks up. I have sent them a final email in the hope i can cancel the transfer if it hasnt been conducted and asked my old hosting company if i can move back to them!
They are a waste of time and money!

I agree whatever you do - do not sign up with123-reg. They are absolutely dreadful.
It's fine if you never use your domain name. God help you if you want anything changed.
Support is non - existent. - pnone lines jammed. the control panel does not work.
An absolute shameful disgrace. I am furious at them for wasting my time- god knows how I get out of this mess and transfer somewhere else smoothly.

Complete waste of time. No support for their shocking services. You will only end up with a huge phone bill, and boiling blood. I absolutely hate 123-reg.co.uk , they are simply the worst company I have ever dealt with !!

Since I registered my new ezine I have been unable to get 123-reg to generate the promised single page Instant site. It says it has but it hasn't. Queries get automatically answered, and closed, with the same automated irrelevant answer, regardless of the question. So I set up the site somewhere else and web forwarded to it from 123-reg. Now the web forwarding isn't working either. What a shower.

I have been with them for over 5 years and have had no problems, all my emails reach me and hosting has been good. I am located in Europe and have good access with help desk and online administration.............................Since Pipex took over this has all changed for the worse, my business has suffered and this week I have been travelling and have not been able to access my pops. as a result I missed a train and flight because I could not produce the booking references. I am now 4 days with out mail. can no longer access the help number from overseas and the online systems no longer allows email web access. basically, I am stuck up the XX ally with out any means to get help. my new web .mobi address also took 2 months to organise as the system reject all my credit cards and the help desk does not respond to emails. So if you are reading 123reg or pipex. you are the worst and I hope you go down for this poor service. Next email is to ofcom, but then I can not get to my email to see a responce. I am stranded and very pissed.

Absolute crap! Worst I have ever experienced. The customer support staff are as useful as my fat cat. I can not express my hatred for 123-reg enough, and the fact that I must have spent approx 50 pound trying to contact their support monkeys, makes things a lot better. AVOID AVOID AVOID !!!!!!!!!!! You have been warned!!

I have 24 domains registered with them and a reseller account with their sister company Webfusion. They have both been taken over by Pipex and from a reasonable company they have turned into compltly frustrating rubbish. Has anyone tried to forward email or get an email on a domain rejected..(If you get loads of spam it is very useful).
Then follow their instructions and it does not work, contact them and they promise they will send a response to your email box, they don't they post it on the site wilthout telling you. But what they post is the set of instructions you have already used that DON'T EFFING WORK!!! THen you don't hear from them again. Their CEO is Mike Reid and I am going to find out his home address so he can read my complaints and I should copy the whole of this page over his effing breakfast.
I used to get a response from customer service with 24 hours and now under Pipex, days later NOTHING!
