According to Layered Tech's announcement Thursday, the innovation is a result of the company's virtualization investments and recent acquisition of FastServers.net which has helped drive its DEFCON managed services across its broad range of products, including virtual machines.
DEFCON managed services simplify the operation of hosted infrastructure, providing a single server administration source, service-level based support, 24x7 monitoring and recovery, patch management, and security. DEFCON is also available with Layered Tech's on-demand, dedicated server solutions based on CentOS, Red Hat, and Windows 2003.
"The extension of DEFCON managed services to our Grid Layer virtual machines is another powerful value-creating tool for our customers," Layered Tech chief marketing officer John Pozadzides said in a statement. "Our roots are as a hosting provider that works closely with customers, and we're continuing to do that in the area of virtualization by giving our customers even greater choice when it comes to defining the amount of security, support, monitoring, and specialized software that is associated with their virtualization environment."
Layered Tech`s DEFCON managed services are tiered, letting customers choose the level of service they want to manage their servers. For instance, Layered Tech says DEFCON 5 is for customers who want to manage all aspects of their server applications, while DEFCON 1 provides the full scope of server management and monitoring.
DEFCON management services are currently available to existing Layered Tech customers who already use Grid Layer VMs and those who migrate from a dedicated server environment to a virtualization platform. DEFCON for Grid Layer VMs includes an operating system such as CentOS and a control panel such as cPanel or Plesk. However, control panel management services are available through Layered Tech for a fee.
Two weeks ago, Layered Tech announced the completion of physical network improvements that have allowed the company to offer DEFCON for VMs.

This is the worst host I have been with.

September 15, 2008 Osamah Alabdullah ( oalabdullah(at)dnkwebsolutions(dot)com ) | Fast Servers has a lot to offer in terms of products and services, nevertheless, their customer service, sales and technical support has a long way to go still.
Senior executives at this company are still unaware of basic customer service etiquettes and have extremely bad communication skills. Imagine a vice president of sales that does not even end his emails with "Regards", "Thank You", and or any courtious closing words. This senior executive never forgets to list his title at the end of the email though.
After many promises from this company that their support and customer care are far better than my existing provider, I have signed up for a dedicated server solution. Only after 2 days I decided to terminate my service as their support was unable to fulfill a very basic request of having my software bundle web adminsitration sites accessible through port 80.
Their vice president of sales was very nice before I signed up for a server, but after cancelation, I started getting rude emails when we requested a refund.
With the above said, Fast Servers may still work for many businesses out there, but as far as I am concerned, the customer is always right and this company does not seem to understand this concept at the slightest.

July 18, 2008 Martin ( reviewsexposed[at]gmail[dot]com ) | We, too, are migrating away from LayeredTech. We used to have 14 servers with them — we’ve migrated all but 4… and we plan to migrate those last 4 servers sometime before the end of the month.
Personally, I think they are jacking up the price in order to pay for their recent acquisition of Fastservers.Net.
We’ve been with FastServers since they called themselves “PowerSurge.Net” — and Fastservers.net recent acquisition by Layered isn’t really inspiring.
