| | Server Central Selling Dell Servers - February 9, 2005 - Managed Web hosting provider Server Central (servercentral.net) announced on Tuesday that it has made Dell PowerEdge servers immediately available in its data centers.
"The introduction of Dell servers into our product line reinforces our commitment to provide the best service in the industry, which we match with the highest quality equipment available," says Mark Luptak, vice president of sales. "The proven performance of our network combined with the reliability of Dell servers is perfect for resource-intensive applications such as streaming media and gaming servers."
According to the company, customers will be allowed to configure their Dell offerings, selecting the operating system, memory and disk space allotments. The plans come with several update and customization options, including disk mirroring and storage configurations. Each plan, the company says, also includes hardware maintenance, 24-hour technical support, and initial installation and configuration.

Tom ( servercentral at tomaszdzido dot com ) | We were ServerCentral's colocation clients for the last three years. We currently have 3 servers at their facility, but just discovered that we have to move out.
Last week, we were suddenly told, that we can no longer come to the datacenter and access our servers. That wasn't the case for years, but that day, when we submitted the support ticket requesting to put us on the list, one of their sales guys wrote back to us saying that they can't allow us to access the machines, unless we had the minimum of half rack purchased from them.
We spoke to a few people there, and weren't able to resolve the problem. I signed up for their service on the promise that we can come and work on the boxes anytime we want. The response I was getting that day was that they're sorry but it's shared space and they should have caught on this in the past. My question was that I would have never bought their service if they had told me that this was the case. I understand their security constraints, but my point is: if you buy apples you expect apples, not bananas.
Can you believe what would happen if that day one of my key boxes crashed?
I feel betrayed. I thought these guys were one of the best out there. The truth is that they mislabelled my servers once or twice when moving them, which resulted in us rebooting the wrong server. They also lost my personal information that was tied to the account - I had to go through authorization process in order to talk to their support.
After all, I can only say: stay away from them. It's sad, but that's how I feel.
