| | Alentus Acquires Two Web Hosts - April 23, 2008 - Web hosting provider Alentus (alentus.com), which is owned by Web hosting equity firm EnActen, announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Linux-based Web hosting providers Website Source (websitesource.com) and SpeedFox (speedfox.com). The financial details of the cash and stock transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1998 and based in Austin, Texas, Website Source and its subsidiary SpeedFox, which was founded in 2002, offer Linux-based shared hosting, virtual private servers, dedicated servers, e-commerce and domain registration services. Website Source operates a Cisco-powered data center facility in Austin and manages over 200 servers, says the press release.
Alentus says that the acquisition immediately adds $2.6 million in annual revenue to its current long-term profitable operations record and will add an additional 14,000 clients to its client portfolio. The current Website Source infrastructure is being integrated into the Alentus global, redundant Cisco-powered network and all Texas staff has been retained, says Alentus.
"This acquisition provides a stable and solid addition of Linux powered Web hosting to the Alentus client base," says William King, CEO of Alentus. "And at the same time, it offers Windows hosting options to Website Source and SpeedFox clients. We are pleased with how the companies complement one another and look forward to growing our client base by offering a more complete menu of website hosting services to the Internet community."
As a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner that focuses on premium Windows based hosting services, Alentus provides dedicated services to thousands of customers including Fortune 500 firms and offers a range of hosting services to enterprise services such as managed converged voice, unified messaging, WAN connectivity, colocation and dedicated Internet connectivity solutions. In Februrary, Alentus acquired the data center and managed services clients of AO Technologies for an undisclosed amount.

In the last year they have been plagued with downtime, disconnected support phones, disconnect live chat, email support goes to a black hole. Massive downtime and hacking problems, I have lost the majority of the data hosted with them in the last 6 months. I am giving up and moving to godaddy.com. Only worse experience is registerfly.com

Charls ( chuck2323(at)gmail(dot)com ) | BEWARE!!! WORST HOSTING COMPANY EVER!!! There was a period of 3 weeks last month where tech support NEVER answered the phone. Tech support live chat was always offline. Trouble tickets were NOT answered. I called the billing department asking them what the deal was and that I was very angry my site was down, she immediately transfered me to tech support even after i said tech support would not answer the phone! I couldn't believe how bad and rude they were. I estimate they cost me thousands during the time I was down. They're abosolutely terrible and give customers no warning when they take your sites down. They're always giving the excuse "we're upgrading servers" when things are down. Give me a break, after each upgrade, your site is still running slow. BTW, I was paying $90 a month for a VPS account, so I wasn't short changing them by any means. It ran worse than an average regular shared hosting plan. I cancelled my account with them and moved over to another company, and my site is running 10X faster. What's funny is after I moved my site, and I logged into my control panel at websitesource, according to the panel, my site was still using 171% of the server resources!! Keep in mind, I wasn't even getting traffic since I already moved!! Amazing. Go somewhere else and save yourself a headache. I lost plenty of sleep being a customer with these douchebags. This should really not be something you lose sleep over when you're paying good money for your hosting company to simply keep your site running. Business owners have enough to worry about.

Fred ( fred at lrlcomputer dot com ) | We switched to websitesource about 5 years ago with high hopes for good service. Things went great for about a year and hen the service started to go downhill. Not only was our site down hours every week but their own site was down. No phone support and submitting a trouble ticket was a joke. It was amazing that the only person that would answer the phone was a sales agent. As a joke I called a sales agent after my site was down for 2 days and asked her about their uptime guarantee. She still claimed it waas 99.7. Our site was down over 30% of the time.
Finally cancelled and went to godaddy. No more downtime since.

A few weeks ago I attempted to show my website during a job interview and received an Address Not Found error, which subsequently lasted for a week. Urgent calls to their tech support did not go through and were never returned. Even calls to the sales department failed!
Eventually, when I did receive an answer they blamed it on a data center migration.
Astoundingly, I didn't jettison them immediately. I'm a patient, understanding guy, what can I say? The problems did not end, and were ongoing from before that: Email server failures, FTP failures, changes to read/write settings on my file folders, policy changes without notice, on and on.
It's a company in a slow train wreck. I can't imagine what it must be like to work there.
I've been with these guys from back when they were called iPowWeb well over 5 years ago. They were never *amazing* but they only needed to display my site the 5 times a month anyone ever requested it and they'd have had my business forever.

I just couldn't tolerate the week long down times, lost emails/orders, no phone or chat support, slow/disconnected FTP ..... They were really good until they sold out. Although it was a pain to change hosts, it was well worth it! My pages load up faster on the web, no problem with emails and the FTP works like it should!! If you are into high maintenance, and problem management, WSS is for you. However, if you business depends on your web page, don't even consider WSS.

Their servers will not relay emails with over 40 or so recipients. Servers are ALWAYS going down, weekly bouts downtime. This is no exageration. When questioning these issues I get the "upgrade for better performance" excuse. I am in the process of moving ALL my hosting away from websitesource.com.
They used to be a good host, but the last couple years (I presume since they were bought out) they have been and a downward slope.

( louie(at)essencialdreams(dot)com ) | When we first moved here things were great. Technical Support was quick. Mainly moved here because my previous host became slow and unreliable with Miva and since that is our Shopping Cart it was time to find reliability.
Up until we upgraded the Miva Store we purchased/leased from Websitesource it was great. Then could not pack the store so file a Trouble Ticket..
I would get a response on how to maintain Miva, to which I would answer been using Miva for years, installed many a store for other customers very familiar with maintaining.
Told them over and over that teh problem was on their server in Miva but deaf ears there.
They would have to pack the database for me, not very efficient way to do business, and this went on for 2 years. The store would slow down to a crawl, I would attempt for hours to pack it and finally file yet another trouble ticket be told how I show be doing it which was exactly what I was doing then someone there would figure out that they needed to increase the server time out then they'd pack it. But Never Fixed It!
So a couple weeks ago they wrote me telling me the database had grown to nearly 9 gig. and that there was a problem.. Wow that's fast 2 years later..
So now the Store is off line for over 2 weeks and told Miva is working on it, yet it's still gives Fatal Error and that the store is uninitialized.. 2 weeks.
Websitesource seems was bought out or merged with another company Alentus.com and since Tech Support takes days or longer to respond. No Phone support and I've had enough.
If you want a host that takes days or longer to respond, does not hear what you write in a Trouble Ticket. asks you questions to answers you've already given the answer to and don't mind your ecommerce not being online with No answer to exactly or even roughly how long it'll be then they're great.
They do offer great prices and lots of space, but know that upgrading the programs they include are up to you. Yes they offer quite a package but it all needs to be updated, by YOU. So all in all it's past time to move on. Now the pain in the well you know of finding a host that offers close to but more reliable.
If you're not doing ecommerce they're fine and if Tech Support is not that important then yes they're a great deal. But if you make a living off the internet Stay Away, Far away!

Nothing works correctly; uploads don't function, texts don't save, they're help pages are full of type-o errors,customer service is next to non-existent despite their 24/7 support 'guarantee'. You are encouraged to do the online chat however they have an immediate disclaimer that if someone doesn't come on in seconds then they're not there. Which was every time I tried - though I did get through after midnight. And still without answers to my questions. I should have known. I emailed a question and after days finally receieved an answer - in which they admitted that emails get bumped around to the wrong department. DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS SITE - IT WILL LEAVE YOU WITH STROKE LEVEL HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE!!
